Title: Rocker cover
Post by: redpaddys11 on 02 April 2014, 22:32:55
Hi everyone. I'm new to this site, and indeed to owning an Omega. I've just recently purchased an '03 3.2 Elite, and there is a very slight smell of burning oil, but no oil under the car, and I was told that the rocker cover gaskets needed replacing on one bank, also the sunroof would only close part way without needing to be reset. I've seen that you should only use VX parts for the gasket, but as I am in no way mechanically minded I have a few questions:
1) Is this a job a very novice mechanic could take on ( and by novice I mean changing a tyre and watching Ed China on Wheeler Dealers!) and apart from a torque wrench what would I need to DIY?
2) If it is a bit too much for me, how much would I be looking at in a garage for this?
3) What is going on with the sunroof needing resetting with a button pressing frenzy like Street Fighter? Am I better off just leaving the thing closed or learning the sequence?

Thanks a lot

There are a few members in your neck of the woods who might be able to help :y

Send a PM to Omegod for starters if the guides look too much :y

Although there could be competent garages out there im sure most members on here wouldnt trust them , sure someone will be along to assist you from here  :y

Anyway if your not too confident or have a large swear box  ::) the job can cause more problems if done wrong  :)

Read the one about flushing the breathers out. Needs to be done regularly otherwise, well, your rocker-cover gaskets go!

Oh dear: James did mine a few weeks back when he did my cambelt and thermostat - for the first time since I bought the car, 5 years ago!!!
