Title: Abs ecu
Post by: chrisgixer on 03 April 2014, 00:24:10
Not mine. Local car to me.

Old shape 2.5 v6. Although I'm told its year 2000. :-\ Speedo intermittent along with tc light on.

Local garage replaced rear abs sensor! no change! concluded replace ecu.

Sounds reasonable to me, but I've never had the fault so don't know.

If ecu needs replacing I presume it needs to be the same configured car from a pre face v engine, or tech2 to reconfig.

Apparently the owner is in electronics designing chips. Maybe he can fix the ecu once removed :-\

Sounds like classic symptoms of ECU failure.

It needs to be removed and sent to BBA Reman or ECUTesting for repair. I wouldn't advise fitting 2nd hand, personally.

There is some information somewhere on here regarding fixing the bonding wire that fails internally. If he has access to a microscope and kit to weld the wire back on he may be lucky.

Weld on something more sturdy? Like a nail? ;D

It needs to be post 1998 V6, with the same Ident (probably DX).

Beyond that, it would be nice if from same configuration car to avoid reprogramming.

Vauxhall were quoting me around £400 to replace said ECU last yr. They did give me the part number for the one I needed and I was able to buy a 2nd hand one for £10 and fit it myself. Fingers crossed but no problems since.

I bought one off Zirk last year. Touch wood, has been good as gold.  If it starts to play up, I've still got my old one which I can send off for repair :)

Should be able to get a naff code reader on it in Sunday. See of it communicates. Probably not.

I think Mark DTM posted a picture of the inside of one a while back, showing how thin the wires are, and the "goo" that they are seated in ... add the fact that they are steel wires (I think) and "normal" tools won't attach them ...

You mate might be a chip designer .. but unless he (or other friends) has access to some pretty sophisticated mechanical repair kit .. chances of diy repairing it are low.

Same again, bought one off ebay for £20 which was "similar". expecting to find some strangeness but all seems well. Came with a strange label on it which kind of implied it had been possibly refurbed already due to age. (jinked it now)

Yes designing on a cad or drawing table won't help. But he might know someone. Then again he probably won't.

Found Marks info ...

Picture at #5, but worth a read of the thread as well
