Post by: Andy A on 15 April 2014, 10:24:26
What water pump out of these 2 is the right one for my Omega 2.2 CD 2003 petrol manual and why?

Are you just doing pump !

The tab on the GM One (LEFT) is longer than the pattern part one from them, So you have to make sure you position it correctly(pic Below)  :y

No. I will be doing Conti Cambelt kit CT924K1 and the water pump from them. Is there anything else I should look out for or do when it's all apart?

I know I have an oil leak on the front but I'm not sure where its comming from.

You need the cams locking tool  :y And there are 3 allen key bolts to remove on the pump.Make sure your Tool is well seated inside the bolts before you apply pressure,Otherwise they will chew up. :y

Not all 2.2's have the marker in the block either to indicate what angle the pump should be  :(

Tunnie. Do you mean that dish shape thing on the black back plate.
And that is probably why the pattern part makers never made the tab on the pump the same length as the GM one  :y

Is it best to use the VX Anti freeze or will any do?

Got some VX antifreeze coolant come the end. Read its better for the head gasket.  :y

Is the water pump that I'm getting from buypartsby as good as the more expensive VX one? I don't want to do all that work and find the pumps failed too early.

I havn't changed the water pump yet. What do you think the red stuff is around the old pump?

Just slight weap from the waterpump gasket, which has dried up over time. Nothing of any concern really, as you are replacing it.  :y

Thanks Tunnie.  :y Looking at the paint on bolts I wounder if its ever been changed.

Do you think a VX pump would last any longer than the one from buypartsby?

Thanks

Not really, quite a lot of parts supplied now by Vx are no better than good motor factors. GM water pump used to have metal blades, last one I got from GM (previous belt change) had plastic blades.

Conti kit I got recently, had metal, although closer together, compared to GM.

I'll stick with the pump from buypartsby and save some money.  :y
