Title: Omega v8
Post by: annihilator on 20 April 2014, 12:39:11
The Opel Omega V8:

From model year 2001, the Omega V8 should take over the role of the flagship of the Opel fleet. Unfortunately, the Omega V8 was cancelled just weeks before the planned launch. A (electronically limited) top speed of 250 km / h would have been as possible with this 310-hp V8 engine, such as an acceleration of less than 7 seconds from 0 - 100 km / h This engine was provided for at both the sedan and the wagon.

the customer could purchase a fully stuffed with electronics communication model called V8.com, which should be based on a Omega Caravan long-wheelbase.

Perhaps it is an irony of history that the dot-com bubble noisily imploded a few months later and the next stock market crash probably a number of potential purchasers of the target audience took the financial opportunity to seek such a vehicle.

The Omega V8 would get for weight reasons, have a bonnet made of aluminum.

I saw a shed of a German Opel Omega estate here in Spain with that roof gizmo (DVD player?). The guy was actually selling it but it looked as though it had been in a demolition derby.

From memory it also had some other gizmos that the UK never had. Electric folding mirrors for example.

I am still looking for a 2,.5 Dti. 8)

Later 24v version of the 2.5TD we had to start with, we instead got the Vx 2.2 4 pot lump 2001 onwards.

I've never had the displeasure, is it any good for a diesel? In theory, could you transplant one into a TD? (I wouldn't want to myself, but I'm curious...)

All the test cars were destroyed, the estate wsa evaluated at millbrook, some work was done at SVO before it was closed(Biggleswade), and a sportier version was planned, but that was canned in favour of,just using the Holden version.

always wondered about a V8 Omega, as years ago i was chasing then home secretary Charles Clarke at this particular venue he turned up in an Omega estate in a metallic jade green colour, went over to have a chat with his driver & he told me it was a V8 & that every now & again Vauxhall produced a one off model & they were used as ministerial cars. Tried getting in touch with various Government agencies to find out the history of this car but always drew a blank, even staff at Luton were hopeless so none the wiser as to wether it was a V8 or not
