Title: which track rod ends ? chassis number dependent ?
Post by: DrAndyB on 24 April 2014, 20:41:03
Hi,

I am looking to get a new set of track rods before I give the car full goemetry setup in couple weeks (just in case original rods don't move  :'( )

I see from the allgermanparts website that there appears to be different ones for different chassis ?

I have a V plate mini facelift 2.5 V6 Saloon.

Am I correct in assuming that I need the ones claiming up to chassis X1999999 ( http://www.allgermanparts.co.uk/steering-and-suspension/steering-parts/febi-bilstein-inner-tie-rod-lh-01852-106145?group=89  (http://www.allgermanparts.co.uk/steering-and-suspension/steering-parts/febi-bilstein-inner-tie-rod-lh-01852-106145?group=89))

Any makes to avoid  :'(  The Febi Bilstein ones appear good value ?

Its been a while, but I recall the chassis number was behind a flap somewhere ? :(

Thanks in advance.

Andy.

Just buy these :y

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-FRONT-STABILISER-ANTI-ROLL-BAR-DROP-LINK-2x-TIE-ROD-BAR-LH-RH-VAUXHALL-/371034346601?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Car+Make%3AVauxhall%7CModel%3AOmega&hash=item56635ed469

Good for 20k miles of hard use :y

And before anyone says 20k is poor, not for the price it isn't  ;)

They often have combined listings... drop links, track rods and arms for both sides £85-90, but none currently listed in their ebay store, haven't looked on ebay.de though :-\

Chassis parts are the same across all model years afaik.

Apart from the obvious exception of estate and saloon, and shocks and springs for trim level and engine.

Track rod ends changed on the facelift models.

Woo. Didn't know that. :y

I suppose that begs the question, what's the difference? :-\

Track rod ends changed on the facelift models.

different part no, but cant see any difference, both types fit and work.

As far as I remember they all superceded to the later part numbers

didn't the hub carrier change then, too ?

or was that just for LSC ?

All news to me. There's a different part number for the centre drag link on lsc. But offering the two parts up, shows they are identical, Afaict.

Does the LSC have a shorter pitman arm/idler? If so the difference on the drag link might be to tweak the range of relative movement of the track rods...

The actual differences between the two would probably only come to light if the two chassis were set up side by side at WIM :-\

Fitted an mv6 lsc steering box to my Elite with no small amount of help from 2woody. No difference to drive it before and after, other than curing of a random stiffness fault from the elite s box. :y

I have an MV6 lsc centre drag link set, with tre's and idler, removed from the project.

Could offer it up next time we're at a Wim. But I dint think there's a difference of any relevance other than shocks and springs, personally.

Could the change in p.no's simply be caused by a change of supplier? Or something similar?

Thinking out loud, I was wondering if the lsc had marginally different components to enable the geometry settings to be achieved whilst allowing for the lower ride height and possibly to give a bit more steering feel :-\

Might only have been a short lived production run due to negligible benefits...
