Title: Crank sensor issues (for Radar)
Post by: chrisgixer on 24 April 2014, 21:44:12
Radar popped round for some rear spring fitting for the mot, and mentioned it had been giving some hot start issues and refusing to start over the last couple of months.

My lap top based code reader confirms code 19. After which the car promptly stalled. 15mins and it started again after a clean of the icv to be sure.

Advised buy and fit a new genuine cs from a vx dealer ASAP, (not from autovaux) and take the car directly home. With fingers crossed, not legs obviously ;D

After two months of persistent starting issues I'm surprised its still playing ball.

Any further comments for Radar please. Just to confirm. Ta

Hmmm. 2.5, is it not?

I recall some weirdness with 2.5 crank sensors, in that the nose length of some is wrong, so that they work, but not reliably, if you don't get the right sensor?

Interesting.
Yes car is a 2.5v6 face lift y2k.

Minimal miles on it. 60k odd on the clock.

Its on its second cs, supplied by Autovaux in oct 2012.

Suggested dealer part, but are they any more likely to know the correct part/ plug?

Yep, not sure if relying on stealer is best. There's a post on here covering the differences somewhere, i think.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for posting and your help yesterday :y - i have checked again and it was the dispack i got from Vauxhall world parts (genuine bosch ::).

CS was actually bought from stealers and was part number 90492061 - i remember when i fitted it that it was the same p/n as what was on the car originally(which was routed in the original way).

Went to stealers this morning and he gave me 2 part nos.:
(Have added prices with ABS for info. that might be useful to others)
90492006 - £84.69 all in (he reckoned this was the most likely correct one) and
90492061 - £73.45 all in

Will have to look back at the posts covering this but iirc there were some inaccuracies there :-\

Here you go: http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=96562.0 (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=96562.0)

Yet another part number to the mix, though : 90540743  :-\

90540743 is actually the sensor my 3.2 takes, so, if you want to try one risk free, I'll buy it off you as a spare if it doesn't work. Failing that, if you're going to High Wycombe, we could no doubt swap one onto your car and try it.

Shouldn't the cheaper one be £63.52 including vat, or is my maths shot to bits?  :-\

Mr. Wood - thankyou for your kind offer - the spirit of OOF is still alive :y

YZ250 thanks - I was given the trade price and not TC - Will query this with the stealers in the morning and report back.
I recalled in the past they gave it some things via ABS are Trade and not TC but not sure if this true.

I will go for 90492061 as that was what was on the car originally and it looked like factory fit (due to being routed the "awkward" way). Though this is no 100% guarantee, the replacement cs worked without any problems for just under 18 months and I feel if it is was not the right type that problems would have surfaced earlier.

I would like the car back on the road before the Wycombe meet and intend to change both rear tyres and cs over the weekend and ask for opinions on what needs doing to the front suspension at the meet before fitting new front tyres (upon the recommendation of our resident suspension expert :y)

Thanks - Assuming you got from the stealer did you get t or tc price?

Yes from the stealer and as I don't have a TC card, I took a pot of vaseline instead!  ::)  :(

£70.75!!  :o  I think he gave me 5% as well.  :-\

That price isn't too bad - hope you didn't have to use the vaseline

Picked up cs from slough and was £52.94+vat - he gave me that price without prompting when I showed abs card (price I got originally was from maidenhead stealers).

MOT Passed :y My brother got all 4 tyres done and tracking. So much for just getting rears done ???

New sensor fitted - prev. she used to idle at c450rpm with a very slight movement at idle - with new sensor she was idling a bit higher at c550rpm and a little bit more erratic on idle :-\ Never did it feel like it was going to cut out though. Fingers crossed.

Thanks to Chris and all others for help / advice :y :y

Your welcome.

Is the erratic idle with ac on or off? Assuming the ac works of course. Think it does, from driving it.

I'm sure a/c was off at the time. Did not try with it on but iirc I think it was less pronounced with it on previously. A/C works fine.
