Title: Scary episode
Post by: andrew38 on 26 April 2014, 11:16:56
Well the car has been faultless for my ownership but just now was driving along and then engine cut out, luckily managed to coast into a layby, car would crank but not fire. left it for 5 mins cranked it and it started fine, then did the same again 10 mins later by which time I was nearly at my destination. Left it a couple of minutes and it restarted as before. Not a nice experience, has anybody else had this occur. Any advise appreciated as always.

If it's a V6 I'd agree with the above. Classic crank sensor systems.  :y

As always, check for codes first. It does sound like a crank sensor as they fail when they get hot then work fine when they have cooled, hence the cutting out and restarting after a bit.
If it is the crank sensor make sure you route the new wire away from the exhaust.
Be worth adding the car details to your details.

Or even Symptoms. I usually double check what I've written but that one slipped through the net.  ::) ;D
I'll try again.  ;D

It's sounds for all the world like the crank sensor but I suggest you do the pedal trick and post the codes on here just to be sure.  :y

Classic symptom faulty crank sensor - note a faulty crank sensor doesn't always throw a fault code ;)

Pedal trick it to confirm (0335), but sounds like crank sensor.

My first one failed at about 130 (kph, obviously...) just outside Dijon. Most inconvenient ;D

Mine was at around 50mph and that was bad enough 80mph a different story. If I had thought about this a bit more would have replaced as preventative maintainance like the cambelt.
