You can get a replacement flexi section on Ebay and have it welded in.

Do Not allow the likes of Kwik Fit to talk you into replacing the whole cat, since their cats are very much poorer quality than the original one. :y

I would not recommend this route  ;)

Mainly because pattern cats and downpipes are dreadful, they sound awful!!!!

Best way is to cut out the flexi as suggested above, around £10 for one from eBay. Eg:

Get the old one cut and welded in, plasma cutter here does wonders  :D

My blown flexi:

My 2.2 is on 171k miles and it's on it's 3rd flexi  :o

cheers tunnie how long did that take you.  :y

Me, no time at-all I was drinking tea  ;D

Someone who knew what they were doing?  Well now, guess around an hour for cutting and welding, and 20 mins or so removing and re-fitting.

Disconnect the exhaust, and let it hang on the bracket bolt, there are 4 bolts for the down pipe, all nice and easy to access. I'd consider buying a spare gasket for the down pipe manifold just in case, that said mine is original at 171k.

I took mine to someone who knew what they were doing, had a plasma cutter and welder. Depends how good you are with those, or take it to someone who can do it for you.

Make sure you have the replacement put in at the right angle  :y

As everyone (well, almost everyone) says, replace the flex on its own. Do NOT replace the cat, you'll regret it quite quickly

Tunis, nice pics re welding. Forgive my lack of knowledge but these flexi sections. . . Are they there to join two sections and allow for movement during driving?

I ask cos I.m having a mare trying to fit down pipe to centre pipe... Just keeps blowing  :-\

Flexi takes the vibration out of the zorst, as V6 are naturally smoother they don't need them.

So you have the downpipe from the exhaust manifold, goes into a pre-cat, then underneath and into a flexi before the main cat.

Over time they just corrode, first one failed at approx 100k, this one went at just 165k or so? So not bad for a cheapo ebay bit.

What keeps blowing, the flexi?  :-\
