Title: Pressure Washer Cleaning Fluid
Post by: tunnie on 02 May 2014, 18:50:51
Anything special about it? Those little bottles on the end of the pressure jet, can it be any old cleaning fluid?  :-\

Just wondering if I could use mixed screenwash? As I got a bulk load when it was on offer at Eurocarparts, just mix it 1/4 with water. As I've got enough of the stuff.  ;D ;D ;D

It's for cleaning a conservatory roof, which is glass  :y :y

Do you mean Snow Foam tunnie ?

Need a decent lance for that to give you good coverage  :y

Not heard it called snow foam, just seen these Karcher things have a cleaning bottle on the lance. Wondering what you can put in it.

Sure, and water is free. But you dont use that in place of oil in your car do you? Or a bin bag instead of a condom? The Tesco value bin bags work out about 1p per bag vs £1 for a condom. There is a purpose for most things and life and price is not the only deciding factor.

The little bottle is usually for use with snow foams as per the previous link. Sure you can put whatever is cheaper in that bottle. But that is a risk you need to decide if you want to take. It may work out ok. But most cheap screenwashes have things in them that are not suitable for painted surfaces. You may find that your cost cutting may cost more in the long term when you need to paint the bits around the roof.

On the other hand the more expensive snow foam is designed to be safe for most surfaces including painted ones.

Also aerosolising screen wash so that you and your dear ones around you inhale that crap and get sick as a result is another risk you need to consider.

Your choice!

Okay for a window cleaner maybe  ;D

Then again why not keep the screen wash for it's intended purpose ?  :y

There's a difference between a proper foam lance and the regular one you get thrown in when you buy the washer :y

Not screenwash!!!

Most shampoos work. I use Simonz when on half price offer at Tesco in mine.  However, it uses shitloads of it, and you still have to use a bucket and sponge.

IME, albeit limited, a better pressure washer does help - I've noticed the difference between my old one (what would now be a K2) and my new K5

I have a Karcher and I use traffic film remover and normal car shampoo through mine when doing the cars. :y

My logic was screenwash makes a good, streak free finish of the windscreen. Takes off bugs, does not damage the soft rubber of windscreen join. Thought it would be good for conservatry glass. So don't see why it would strip paint. Conservatory is plastic anyway.

If you want to use it, Tunnie, use it. Take no notice of the grannie brigade. ;D

If you're worried about rubber seals or plastic, rinse it off with water afterwards.

You're still going to have to rub and wipe it, so get the right tool for the job.

My old window cleaner let me into his secret. Fairy.

Reason for pressure washing and cleaning fluid, is it cannot be reached by hand to scrub  ::)

Bird crap right at the top  >:(

That's why they make tools for cleaning them. Believe it or not, you're not the first person to have to clean one.

As in not cleaning? Or leaving smear/dirty water marks?

If latter, you use a rubber blade, a bit like a windscreen wiper, to pull the water off, so it doesn't dry in situ. A bit like using a chamois on a car, if that makes sense.

If former, then if rubbing with a fixed sponge doesn't shift it, a toy pressure washer 3m away won't either.
