Title: Axle stand placement on the rear?
Post by: Andy A on 02 May 2014, 19:47:18
I under stand from what I have read that the best place to trolley jack the rear of the Omega 2003  is just behind the rear scissor jack cover, on the bolt that's in the centre of the triangle shaped sub frame. Is this correct?

Where is the safest place to put the axle stands to support the rear of the car?

Thanks

Is there a photo or diagram anywhere of the box section chassis rails along the sides?

There is a reinforced section further inboard from the jacking point you correctly describe.

Look further in board of the triangular plate. By the brake pipes and exhaust hanger.(only one silencer on the 4 pots) they sadle of the stand fits nicely across there.

If you have a large jack, it may be that the jack footprint is in the way of the stand, so may need to re jack the car placing the sadle further outboard to give room.

I tend to catch the corner (firmly placed of course) with the jack and put stand in the middle of that triangular donut-bush plate. However my jack has a very small head so I can getaway with it. not sure how you'd get on with a big plate jack.

Well, today's the day, especially with all this sunshine and not a cloud in site.  :)  I'll have a better look and get her jacked up.

Thanks all for your help and  advice.  :y

Haven't started yet. Had to take the other half shopping first. I just came across this on our forum. http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=113494.msg1431092#msg1431092

If you have a look at the photo's on the page the car is jacked up in the same spot where the scissor jack goes. I have some rubber pucks here I used on top of the trolley jack when doing work on my BMW so not to damage any metal.

Would it be safe to trolley jack up with a rubber puck on top the Omega in the same place as the photo's, on the sill?

I've jacked the back of the car up under the bolt on the sub frame but I'm still not sure where to place the axle stands exactly.

Do the stands go in between where there are 2 large  holes in the chassis frame just in from the triangle sub frame?

It doesn't look very strong and I don't want to make a mistake.

Thanks

I put the jack stands in the centre of the sub frame come the end. Just feels safer there and I need that bit of extra height to get under the car without straining to much.

What a job with a large cup 3 tone trolley jack. There's barely enough room on the triangle sub frame. I had to put the cup of the jack with a rubber puck resting on top, half on the sills close to where the scissor jack goes and half on the sub frame. Why couldn't VX just put a nice BMW front and rear centre jacking point in.  :o

Pinion oil seal should be finished today  :y and once my body recovers I will start on the rest of the car.  :y

Thank you all for your time and help.  :y
