Might be wrong, but I believe it's your can sensor failing.

Lift youre bonnet and the sensor is at the FRONT top part of engine,,underneath black plastic cover saying ecotec on....the wire to it is going in where the cut out on cover is.   about 10 minutes to change it

They'll be an expert on shortly to confirm or deny ::)

HTH's :y

2.2 is good for decent miles, mine is on 171k  :y

Unplug the cam sensor, then start, it will take a lot of cranking, but should fire and idle ok. Assuming everything else is fine.

Another test, unplug the MAF sensor, see how it runs.

Put the new rubbers on coil pack first so I know its not that, just keeps turning over but making no attempt to start. Got spark at plugs so ruled out coil pack, throttle body and Maf all cleaned out,new cam sensor fitted !!!! any suggestions gratefully received  :-[ :o

Let it stand overnight. Start from cold and watch the exhaust. Any steam? Any funny smells eg petrol in the coolant bottle?
