Title: need good advice..or is it a scam
Post by: caolan_p on 10 June 2008, 16:39:12
hi all im looking at a car i seen on autotrader,i have not sent any money at all so in need some of your thoughts please. it has from now just been through e mail thsi is one of them......Hello again,
The car is still available for  3000 GBP + 100 shipping cost, if you want to buy it please give me your
full name and shipping address to contact eBay and have them send you the invoice.

About the payment process you must know that:
You must deposit the full price amount + shipping fees , fully refundable ( including money transfer fees ) to
eBay's Agent from Greece .
After that you must fax to eBay all the receipts of payment allowing  them to start the shipping because as I
told you in my first email, the car will be shipped by eBay and they can't start the shipping process until
you send the payment receipts.
As soon as they confirm your payment, they will ship you the car and give you the tracking number. When you
will receive the car and all the documents (naturally, I will sign the section 8 in the V5 form so you can
easily transfer the car into your name) you must send a confirmation to eBay to tell them if everything is OK
with the car so they can send me the payment.
If, for some reason, you disagree with the car ( I assure you that is NOT going to happen since my car is in
IMMACULATE condition in and out ) it will be shipped back to me on MY EXPENSE and eBay will send you all your
money back.
From the moment you receive the car you have 7 days to inspect it. If is not like I said or something is not
ok with it you can reject it and eBay will fully refund you and the vehicle will be shipped back to me, on my
expense.
eBay will transfer the money to me, only after you will confirm, them the purchase of the vehicle. Until then,
the money will be safe kept by eBay and not released to me.
I'm waiting your email with your full name and shipping address to contact eBay. As soon as I send them your
details they will send you the invoice with all the info about this process.
They will also send you the eBay's Agent details (name and address) where you must send the money.
The car will be shipped directly to your requested address, as soon as I will have the payment confirmation
from eBay. They will hold the money until you will receive, inspect and accept the car.
If you want to go on with this deal through ebay please email me as soon as possible YOUR FULL NAME AND
ADDRESS, and I will forward them to eBay along with the rest of the details, to open a case regarding our
deal.

Regards!
        Nice doing business with you.

Ebay does not provide an Escrow service like this guys suggests....  I would approach a suitable Escrow company

How is his ffedback?  Have others bought cars off him this way?

Stay Clear

My mate nearly got conned on an Audi TT advertised in Derby but the car was actually in Denmark.

I told him to stay clear.  He sent the £150 shipping fee to have the car brought to the UK for him to inspect (£150 to inspect it and maybe have it turned down, we all know i costs more than that)

Any way, cutting a long story short, they then had his bank details and shortly afterwards they also had his £7500

Did he ever see the car. Yeah Right

Golden rule, dont pay out a single penny till you have seen and driven the car

will do ....here is the first e mail       I want 3000 GBP + shipping to your door for the car. To calculate the shipping fees send me your address.

Due to amount involved and due the fact that I am not located in the United Kingdom, I only accept third party

transaction mediator.I have chosen the eBay Shipping Center Program to take care of all the proceedings, so the car

will be shipped by eBay.Beside shipping the car, eBay will act as the middle man - holding the payment until you

receive and inspect it. You will have one week inspection period.

Regarding the payment method I would like to use eBay like a third part for the payment because in my opinion

this is the safest way to handle the transaction. You will have the car for inspection and test drive BEFORE any money is released to me.

Look how this work:

  1. I will contact them , and I will send your shipping information to eBay to open the transaction.

  2. They will send you a payment invoice for the car (the invoice will be from customer support team) about how to make the payment.

  3. The invoice contains all the info about this transaction and you must follow the steps written there to complete the deal with me.

  4. After all that will be done, the car will be shipped by eBay, and the car will arrive at your address in 3 to 5 days..

  5. Buyer accepts delivery and informs eBay to tell them if he is satisfied or not

  6. Ebay  will release the money to the seller(in case the buyer is satisfied) or to the buyer(in case that he is not satisfied).

This means a 3rd party.

You will receive a tracking # in the same day when the car will be shipped from eBay.

I am using the protection and shipping program offered by eBay Shipping Center because this will protect both

of us and also it is the fastest way to complete this deal.If you want to go on with this deal , mail me immediately

your shipping address to contact ebay and calculate the shipping cost .

It's too complicated.  Looks and reads like one of the Nigerian scams.  Just walk away - there's plenty more cars out there.

Contact Autotrader, I know it was a long time ago but I had to speak to them about scam merchants asking for more money to advertise a car I had for sale, suggesting they were from a subsidory of Auto trader, Auto trader were interested enough to look into it, and I got my money back. :)

It is comical to read this.  ;D

It is so completely and obviously a (not very good) scam I am wondering how anyone could be fooled??

Caolan_P. You are wanting to cling onto the hope that you really could get a bargain car.

I sincerely hope that you do not discover this the hard way. There is no car, only some not very smart fraudsters looking for naive punters.

This is another version of the famous Nigerian 419 scam.
That is the one where they play on peoples greed. You are being suckered into believing you can get a car for a fraction of its true value.

Don't become another statistic. You will not only lose a large amount of money, you will also have your credit identity stolen and despite what certain credit card companies will tell you, it is a very long and frustrating process to clean your file after that.  >:(

One final question for you?
If the car is that good, why are they selling it over here rather than in their own country or to a dealer??  ;)

I missed this thread due to commitments which prevented me getting on here. It's a scam!

I had a similar one about 6 years ago for a bike on fleabay... It all went very quiet when I said I'd fly out and ride it back!
