Quick question for anyone who knows - how long a job is it to get the head off (and back on) a K-series in a Rover 200 (bubble shape)?
Friend of a friend has been quoted £800 to fix the headgasket, which sounds like an awful lot of money to me...

It's been a while but I can't remember them being particularly tricky. ISTR there's an upgraded part to fit too :y
-
Yeah, I think it's a case of replacing plastic dowels with metal.. have to do some reading up if I offer to lend him a hand instead of him getting bent over..

these guys do a mobile service slightly cheaper

Need uprated head gasket, new head bolts, manifold gaskets, coolant and oil change, also cambelt and water pump, day at the most, unless head needs skimming,if its mixing oil and water, check inlet manifold gasket 1st as these can give hg symptons.

I can second that, they have got excellent reviews and for that price it isn't worth doing it yourself :y

Just remember to check the liner heights,if the the liners protrude less than 3 thou above the block the mls gasket will be useless, the new payen elastomer gasket is designed for that scenario (bw750 blue is the latest version) :y
-
The job is easy to do yourself.. :y

Cheers guys :y
Now to see if I can persuade him not to take it to wherever quoted him £800! :)

I didn't bother with the MLS gasket and uprated ladder in mine. Including water pump, cambelt, stat, yada yada yada, it was less than £200 in parts.
Caught it early, so was just head off, new gasket, bolt back down.

As Daz says it's an easy job,£800 is taking the piss bigtime
