Post by: omega3000 on 18 May 2014, 19:41:10
NISSAN 300 ZX non turbo

Has an auto box , the car starts and drives but it doesn't change up a gear , fluid been changed to no avail  :(
Its for sale but looking at gearbox second hand are big money so wonder if it would be a quick fix  :-\

In the UK they were 2+2 Twin Turbo targa top only, but other countries got different options.. Japan had 2 seater and 2+2 options in both NA, Twin Turbo guise with a choice of targa top, coupe (the very rare 'slicktop') and convertible and the US only got the 2 seater with all engine & roof options.

Emd - as it's an import, have the clocks been replaced or fitted with a 'speedo converter' behind the clocks and a little sticker? The converters generally mess with the speed signal that the box expects to see as the gearbox ECU & power steering take their feed post gauges. A tell tale is that the steering is light at medium speeds as the ECU thinks it's going a lot slower than it really is..

Other culprit could be the cam angle sensor; big multi plug on the right hand exhaust cam as you look at the front of the car.

Pull the autobox codes: http://www.twinturbo.net/ttnettech/autodiag/autodiag.html
And ECU codes: http://www.twinturbo.net/ttnetfaq/FAQpages/ECUdiagnostics.html

Lots of resources collated by a fella I used to know: http://www.300zx.org.uk/index.htm
