Title: is it the immobilizer?
Post by: BIGDOG on 19 May 2014, 09:43:10
HI, I have a 2.5td T reg. Had trouble starting the car (but was turning over), left it for a bit, went back and then nothing. The ignition sequence from position 2 goes as normal, but after the glow light has gone out and I turn to position 3 - nout. No sound from the starter motor and no click from the solenoid. I'm not sure if for some reason the immobilizer has kicked in or the starter is kaput. Help!

If you hold the key at position 3 for a while, say ten seconds or more, does it eventually crank :-\

Mine used to have a random delay between turning the key and cranking... a new battery seems to have helped :-\

Mine did that for a bit but fixed itself (as they are apt to do!!).

I found switching the ignition key on and off quickly a couple of times usually did the trick. Also if its an auto rock the selector switch back and forth a couple of times in case it thinks its in gear. Also make sure that after you have connected the battery to lock and unlock the doors with the fob to make sure the immobiliser disarms.

All free and worth a try.

Not immobiliser (EML would flash when ign on if it was), more likely the autobox selector switch if auto, or starter solenoid if auto or manual.

Worth checking engine ground strap as well
