Title: Thyroid
Post by: Field Marshal Dr. Opti on 20 May 2014, 12:25:00
The doctor wants to check out my thyroid. I'm not sure why.

Like everyone, I've heard of underactive thyroid, and overactive thyroid, but have no idea what the associated symptoms are.

Anyone care to shine a light in my direction?

One makes you fat, the other makes you thin?

Though I think it's more complicated than that, really!

I believe you're getting your thyroid mixed up with your prostate..... ;D ;D

The 'gloved finger' is to be avoided at all costs.

The 'gloved finger' is to be avoided at all costs.

Indeed, it's not as pleasurable as those of a certain persuasion would have you believe.

Allegedly.

In seriousness I think they are perhaps starting to check thyroid levels as a routine thing at a certain age now? I know they checked my mums recently (which was low) and I know it also tends to slow up with age.

I also think the effects are more than just weight gain/loss but also include things like bone density (osteoporosis) and a host of other bits & bobs, not least your bits & bobs..
