hi all so another wee thing to have advice on, my water temp indicator does not like staying still it runs for most of time at about 80/85 but creeps up to 90/95 fans working but feel overtime. i did recently have coolant leak and after getting diagnosed thanks jamie i managed to get hbv replaced thanks mark. and although no coolant loss since then this gauge is a bit erratic. any suggestions please :)

Normal running temperature on a v6 is around 90 - 95
Iirc, the bloke thermostat opens around 97 and that's when the fan cuts in :y
-
Fans also have two speeds, so given the recent warm spell, if the fans have been running at full speed they are quite noisy, especially outside the car :y
If, when the fans cut in, the temperature drops, then all is well :y Also worth leaving the aircon on, ie not in ECO mode, as that puts the front fans on constantly, which helps with cooling :y
-
Al, does that comment about the front fans apply if the aircon doesn't work? Mine has a leak and therefore empty of refrigerant.
Ron.

I think the front fans are also temperature controlled, so if the temp gets close to 100 then all three fans get switched on :y
If the aircon doesn't work then the fans might not be on all the time :-\
Easy enough to check though :y
-
Er yes - I could go and look!
Sorry for the needless question, Al......
Ron.

Nonsense ;D
Not everyone leaves the aircon switched on, so wouldn't necessarily realise that it switched the front fans on :y
-
Temperatures sound normal to me.. If it's dropping much below an indicated 85 once fully warmed up, you might have a tired thermostat, though.
-
thanks have been watching sits around 85 drifts up to 90 ish then comes down to 85 or just under
-
As Kevin suggested, if it struggles to reach 85° after a decent blast, then think about changing the stat, but sounds like it's all working as it should :y
