Title: Non Starting 2.6, Pedel Trick just shoes flashing Spanner.
Post by: zirk on 23 May 2014, 17:36:12
Sods law really booked in to a Mot today and it wont start, 51 2.6 was fine been stood for a few weeks.

No EML on, no flashing spanner on Ing turning over, cheapo BT Code Reader shows no Codes, decided to do Pedel Trick which just shows Flashing Spanner?, dont think its transponer related but could be wrong, tried both Keys?

Pulled Crank Sender plug apart, to see if it will show a Code, EML came on, Cheapo Reader still says no Codes?, Peddle Trick still just flashes, so put Crank Sender Plug back, Disconnect ECU and Diss Battery for overnight tonight, as Battery now flat and on charge.

Any thoughts?, Crank Sensor?, Transponder issue?, ECU?

Chris.  :(

Odd. Thoughts in no particular order. Got a another 2.6 ecu available? Transponder would show a code. Cranks sensor might very well not, so try another ecu. If same, swap cs out. :-\

...has it got fuel in it. As a late starter. If you'll pardon the pun. ;D

if the spanner light is flashing isnt it trying to tell you a code , i did pedal trick and spanner lrght was on but didnt flash, dont you have to count the flashes?

Could count the flashes, probably get bored after 100 or so though. OK what I mean is its continously flashing.  ;)

Yea kind of on the cards for tomorrow, dont have another 2.6, as normally only play with 3 and 3.2s, was going to pull the 2.6 ECU and its bits out and stick it in the 3.2 Manual, should be able to prove, if it starts, ECU and Transponder side is ok. Petrol, hmm, its low'ish but not empty, could stick some in just to prove the point. ;)

Pedal trick. Each digit ,of a four digit code, could flash up to 10 times. So there's no point counting past 11, as that's constant flashing, which means no codes.

Constant flashing at ignition on, means something else, transponder I thought. But, again, there's no codes, as transponder would raise a code. Even if its just "wrong transponder code" which I get sometimes.

....unless the the gubbins that reads the transponder code is fubar of course. But I thought that would raise a code too....? Not helping here am I Dad. :(

Oh yea, forgot to mention, did pull the fuel feed pipe of the side of penlium, no fuel on cranking, but seem to remember the DBW's wont piss fuel unless the engine is running, unlike the non DBW's,  :-\, can someone confirm.  :y

Does the tacho needle kick when the engine is cranking? Does the EML go out as soon as the engine starts cranking?

I didn't get any codes when the crank sensor failed on my 2.6. The only difference I could see (apart from the obvious fact that the engine wasn't running) was that the needle didn't move and the EML stayed on.
