Title: windscreen repair kits
Post by: bigbadee on 02 June 2014, 10:23:39
thought id try one on the old escort .Bought a cheep kit of the bay and as the old escort failed its mot last year on the screen thought id give it a go nothing to loose. Read the instructions (now there's a first) and of we. had a chip with 5 small cracks coming from it approx. 1.5 cm in diameter including the cracks .On went the glue wait 4/6 mins it said so I sat inside the car and waited really pi**$d off now as the chip along with its cracks as visible as ever, another bay rip off then out comes the misses with me cuppa and comments how good it looked and when I checked it had gone tried it again on another chip and its like magic suddenly after about 5 mins the chip/crack just disappears. I have had a look this morning still seems pretty good deff worth a go if your screen ant to bad .

As always sorry about bad spelling

Check your insurance policy: most sponsor Autoglass, who will repair such cracks invisibly, free of charge without affecting your NCB.
The insurers benefit because they don't have to shell out for a new windscreen, Autoglass get their fee and you benefit from not having made a "claim"!

Even the policies which require you to pay are only £10. Had ours done a couple of times but both ended up needing a new screen eventually.

I used to cringe in the up-and-over car wash with a chip in the screen. "She's gonna blow, Cap'n!"  ;D

lol o.p is known as a starburst chip,
I used to repair them proffesionally years ago and in fact only stopped last year as i ran out of resin! one of those little thigs you never manage to get round to,keep saying to meself when next in uk order some more, then promptly forget it :-[
anyway any chip and i mean any chip or crack depending how long it is can be repaired and the repair is stronger than the original  glass/laminate/glass bond, providing your repair it within a week of occurence,
if its left to long you get water and dirt ingress which can sometimes be flushed out but it does involve drilling the screen which is not for the fainthearted! after repair there is another resin(finishing) which is applied after curing the repair, which completely seals the repair and it will last the lifetime of the screen,
still have me kit and have done loads of chips and cracks here, MUST GET SOME MORE RESIN! :y
