Hyundai 2.4 petrol.
Front starting cat completely missing bar 2 rings rattling about. Absolutely no sign of any honeycomb.
Broken down itself, or purposely knocked out?
Would it upset front lamba which are very close?
-
lol you would be surprised just how many cars have a non existant cat apart from the outer shell,if the car had a missfire for some time in its life when the unburnt fuel does finally catch fire it can blow the honeycomb to pieces, small bit ejected out the back, bigger bits rattle aroundtill they become small and are ejected out the back :y

Don't see why it would upset the pre-cat lambda unless it's leaking, TBH.
It's possible that bits of cat have been rattling around and blocked or damaged the lambda sensor, I suppose.
-
nope if engine is in good nick precat wont know at all, :y
-
Never seen cat bits exit the exhaust, if pre cat then they get stuck in the main cat, if main cat they clog the silencer up.

neither have I, but its only explanation for the honey comb being totally gone? unless it turns to dust and goes out the exhaust, where else would it be?
as said seen it on at least a dozen cars now :y

That would explain why it had to have a new exhaust (inc main cat) a few months back...
