Just come back from gym, parked car up
Came back out, pressed key fob... Lights on it are working
Car suddenly won't unlock!
Put new battery in it, no change, still can't get in it :'(
I've only ever had 1 key for my Miggy
Now, all of a sudden, the lights on the key fob don't light up when you press either button
But when i take the fob apart (split in half) the lights work when you press them, but still can't get in me car
Anyone fix keys, and what do Vauxhall charge for a new key?
Mr Happy, missus going mad, can't go shopping
Have called green flag out, doubt if there'll do nowt
-
Why don't you unlock it with the actual key ::)
-
Won't the alarm keep going off as it's dodgy on my Miggy
I've not tried key BECAUSE if the alarm starts, it may not stop and will be going off all night surely?
Before I climb out my car, I have to press the little "running man" button
Then press key fob to lock it, if I don't do this, a gust of wind triggers the alarm
TheBoy had my car on tech2 a few years ago and think he said i had a split in the window alarm strip or whatever it's called
-
Why don't you unlock it with the actual key ::)
Must be a reason . . . .can't think what though :-\ :-\. The manual unlocking operation can sometimes be very stiff to operate , even more so if it's not been opened like that for ages . . . but should work :-\ :-\
I think to lock the car & as a temporary measure to stop the alarm going off . . . open rear door , push drivers door lock pillar/pin down , close rear door :y
BUT . . . make sure you have the key in your hand & not inside the car ;) ;)

Take the key fob apart and have a close look at where the battery holder is soldered to the board. Both of mine had broken solder joints. I had to re-solder all three on mine to get them working again.
Also if you pack some tissue paper ontop of the battery and then reassemble, you can sometimes make the broken solder contact, make contact again and it should work. It did for me. But it's only a temporary fix.

Ar ha! looking at the battery part, where the battery fits in, at the bottom of the battery holder
It looks like 1 of the feet isn't sticking
But should I try and open the door with the key anyway?
-
Yep, open door and the alarm will sound until you turn the key in the ignition
-
Wayne, if ever you're passing, I can fix the key.
The alarm will go off if you use key in door until you start the engine.
If you have a carpass, we can program a replacement, 2nd hand fob, if you're passing.
Hope that gives you options :y
-
But then, when I go to lock it
I just stick the key in and lock it, or will alarm go off?
I've just padded the key with tissue and the lights are working on key fob
But they still won't open the car?
Is there a time limit to put a battery in and get cover back on?
I don't understand how lights are working, yet car won't open :-\
-
Hi matey
I don't mind a drive to Brackley
Gives my car a good run from Wantage way
what bits do I need?
what's a car pass? What's it look like?
Will it be in my glove box stuff do you think?

Try a resync (ign on, press fob buttons a few times - car should lock then immediately unlock when it syncs). You will need to do this every time it loses the battery connection.

The carpass is a piece of card (similar in thickness to the glovebox user manual covers), size of a credit card, with some numbers on, such as radio code, CD player code and (the one we're interested in) Security Code.

Oooh, a re sync?
Right, so go out side, unlock car with key
Alarm will go off, turn key in ignition and press both buttons
How many times? 1st turn on ignition? Or 2nd turn?

OK.
Unlock with key. Alarm will go off.
Start car, alarm should stop after a second or 2.
Stop car.
Turn ign to II
within a few secs, repeatedly press either button on the fob until car locks, then unlocks.

Put tissue in key fob to pad it out
Lights are working
Been outside and done a re sync!
Car opens and locks ;)
Thanks mate!
What would have caused all this all of a sudden?
Can I still get a spare key done next week ?
-
The fact that the battery holder has come away has cause the fob to lose its synchronisation with the car (to prevent scrotes "sniffing" the fob, it uses a rolling code, and its this that the resync resets).
Have you got a carpass?
-
Yes mate, it's not the actual pass, but diamond cars from Aylesbury who I bought the car from in 2004 have wrote down all the codes for key, radio, security etc
Hoorah!
When are you free next week?
Can you get the bits? Or send me link and I'll order 2 spares as I'd like 2 keys if poss buddy

Not sure when I can be free just yet. When you looking, evening or weekend?
I need to check, I *may* have a spare blank key blade (which you'll need to get cut by a locksmith), transponder, and a selection of 2nd hand fobs. Yours is an estate? So 2 button fob?
-
Should add, blank key with transponder is £10 (it will cost you a further £3-5 to get it cut by your local locksmith), the fob you can have, and £10 to program to your car
-
Hi mate
Weekends are a no no due to gigging in band as usual
Cyprus then Portugal, then off to Russia for 4 weeks
So evening is good next week
Mines the 2 button estate yeah
Have you a link to the bits as want to get 2 keys done please mate
-
Oooo, they've come down since I last bought them - I struggled to get them for under an tenner when buying 20 at a time ;D
2 of these:

As said, I think I have two suitable 2nd hand fobs - there are different types, and it needs to match. Or look on ebay, but ensure it matches yours (carefully read whats written on the back of yours, its difficult to read, probably Megamos).
-
Ordered 2 from that link for £9 plus £1 postage
Now trying to find a fob :y
-

Can't seem to find an exact match on eBay :o
-
Shall I get this?

How much!!? lol!

With the fob, Wayne, it needs to have same number of buttons, and be the same make and type (as written on the back). The button shape varied between 1999 and 2000, but that's only superficial.
-
Mines a 1998 mate, I've found loads of 2 button omega fobs on eBay
But they look different to mine
-
Did you say you have 2 fobs that will fit my new keys I've got coming?
and you can reprogram your fobs you've got to work with my car?

I've got a bundle here, of various types. What is written on the back of yours, and I'll check if I have anything compatible.

Where am I looking bud?
Have I gotta take the key apart?

Nope, on back of fob (other side to buttons), you may need to look at in different lights until you see it

-
No, not inside. Its on the outside, no need to take key apart.
Let me take a pic, hold on...
-
You can see this one is a Delphi one
(http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a319/IamTheBoy/Omega%20Odds/photo_zps6a78815a.jpg)
Note, I purposely picked one that is easy (!) to read, most are much harder, and different lights and/or angles helps.
-
Just looked, mine has no name whatsoever mate
Though the back of it looks identical to yours

Its unusual for it all to have rubbed off :-\, but will admit its desperately difficult to "catch it" in the right light to see it.
We'll have to take a chance on what I've got.
-
I've got good eyesight matey lol!
Have held it up every angle in the light, definitely rubbed off
Are you about next Tuesday night or Wednesday night?
What sort of time? No rush as key I've re syncd is working good

I won't know until the w/e what free time I have. I suspect one of those days can be accommodated.
-
Tonight, available from approx 5:30, tomorrow night, from approx 7pm
Be handy if you could get the key blades mechanically cut first
-
Hi mate, are you about next week? I'm flat out with band crap
