Hello
I have got a "mid facelift" x30xe from 98 (long plenum type) in my car now, which needs a belt change
Will there be any issues using a timing belt from a pre facelift x30xe (taking from another engine that has just done 2000km)
-
It is a real no no fitting a used timing belt owing to what can happen if it fails.. Buy new :y

It's gone 2000km guaranteed, and its GM so I shouldn't worry about that?
Just simply to reduce the cost of buying a new one, since I've used loads of money already on the car (you'll see later in my thread what)
-
Not usually the belt that goes - its normally the bearings in the tensioner/idlers ;)
-
And they are the same condition
Are the belts the same?, I'll just change if yes
-
Up to you mate - personally I wouldn't ;)
-
That means there is no difference then?
Don't see why i should be worried, when it's driven 2000km out of 60000km which it's good for

Ok, I will answer the question (as others are not lol)
The only potential difference is in the tensioner back plate which on early cars is an EB casting and later ones an 01. The tensioners, idlers and belt are the same.
So swap over the parts and fit to your original tensioner back plate and happy days.

Thank you! :y
Then I will definitely use it
I could understand not to use it if it had gone far, but this hasn't.
