Power failure stops Eurotunnel trains, causing widespread disruption for much of today.

Exactly what happened the last time I tried to use it.

Their customer service was excellent, though. Their advice to me? "<shrug>"  >:(

So, like I say, "the last time". >:(

the reason people use le shuttle is time, when its running well, it takes 1hour, boarding, and disembarking, included, the ferry takes 2hours,without waiting in the lanes, yes ferry is nicer, and more relaxed, but to some its all about time.

Never used the tunnel, and while I own this car I never will ..  :) so end of the month .. leave home around 05:00  .. get to Dover 08:30. Sail at 09:30 arrive Calais 11:00 which is 12:00 French time, arrive Joinville 16:30 .. first beer 16:35  :)  (all timings with the tin tent on the back so a tad slower than when solo .. :) )

I've used the tunnel a few times now without any issue at all, although this year due to price(28 ft campervan) we are going on the ferry from Dover for about 100 quid less than the train :y

I prefer the Ferry, breaks journey up nicely, get a breakfast, bit of sea air. Tunnel is just like being on Central Line in your car  ;D

I like both & use both. Depends on destination, time and vehicle. August with the Wedge & October with the Wife.  ;D

I must say I loved going on one of the last hovercraft trips. Hardly anyone on it.  ;D

Oh how I laughed, I nearly wet the bed.

Still, I doubt Eurotunnel will lose out, as they'll claw it all back when people who HAD to travel today and got a ferry realise that doing so has invalidated the return ticket, and they'll have to pay €209 one way.

I'm nearer to Dover, so: leave home at 06.20; on the M2 at 06.25; arrive at the docks 07.10; drive straight on the ferry; have breakfast with a couple of coffees and then a piss before disembarking at 10.00(French time); drive out the docks and straight onto the motorway; arrive at Saleignes(near Cognac) about 17.15

Every time I've done this in the last 7 years, the tunnel has been twice as much, and the hour(at the most) that you 'gain' isn't worth that much to me. And it isn't a gain if you add in an extra stop for breakfast.
