Title: SatNav aerial
Post by: Lagondanet on 23 July 2014, 12:01:25
My SatNav aerial and the rubber seal are perished.   :(  Are they obtainable, easy to replace/fit and if so how? Thanks.

The aerial bit should just unscrew ....... it might depend though on when the last time is was removed ..... be careful that the rubber bit (on the aerial) doesn't come away from the metal bit that runs up the middle. I ended up glueing mine back on. I did price a new one, it was available but didn't buy one ..... can't remember now why .... perhaps I didn't justify the cost for a car that was rarely used  ???

Trim back the gasket and reseal with black silicone, looks neat and will last the lifetime of the car. You can also give the ariel a wipe with the same and it looks fine

A very practical solution. Thanks.  :y

I used an old rubber car mat that was kicking around, found a piece that wasn't ribbed, then cut to shape and made my own seal, from the outside its flush around the base looks good.  :y

Got the same on my 3.2, silicone sounds good idea, as to release the ariel no doubt have to remove headlining to reach the bolts securing it.

I might have a brand new one somewhere.

Also, the same aerial base was used on some VAG's and I seem to recall they sold the rubber seal as a separate item

I tried to research that and drew a blank. The only common gasket between different manufacturers that I could confirm was for the non GPS bases with the whip antenna. The GPS / GSM bases for saloon Omega's are a pain! I have a collection of various manufacturers GPS / GSM complete antennas but what you find is the curvature of the Omega saloon roof only allows for a small footprint aerial base.

Its actually very easy to remove the antenna on the saloon. Pull down high level rear light and trim (just clips in but careful tugging required), remove centre headrest so you can get you head further to the rear (so you can see what you are doing) and pull headlining down gently for access. Cable is in one connector block, one large nut holds antenna to body.

Easy  :y

VAG and GM often use different shape holes, one of them is square, and one of them is round - cannot remember which is which though

Black silicone is still the best fix if the aerial is working   :y

Replacement rubbers are available, about £4 off ebay

Signum and Vectra C use the same base, so the whole thing can be swapped over if you get the aerial corrded into the base problem

Only issue is if you get a Vectra C one you need to cut the tube for the rear wash wipe off, Signum, and would guess Vectra C Saloons, don't have this issue
