Title: not a common tyre size

The other day drivers rear tyre destroyed its self while i eas overtaking not that i noticed till i saw smoke anyway  thought get a tyre   and i kept getting told   have to order one in  .  Its a 225 55 16   i end up bought a part worn as i didnt want to runabout on the 205 15  spare .  Now for some reason the continetal tyre he showed me became a winter tyre on return   butvim not fussed as it has decent tread and handy to have fir winter as was going to pick a set up  anyway.

Is the the 225 really an uncommon tyre?

I would say that the 16" part of the equation is more rare than the 225 mm part. :y

Neither should be that hard to source though. :y

Used on older BMW 5 series and on current Mercedes E Class with 16" wheels, so yes, pretty common :y

The 225 width is slightly unusual as most front wheel drive rubbish uses much narrower tyres :-\

I found that for a given make, the 235/45/17 tyres on the face lift rims fitted on my MFL were cheaper than the original 16 because they were more common/popular

Its a 98 estate so that is mid face lift  . 

I was bit confused at bern told they not common have to be ordeted and that was a few places not just one or two

My Honda has 225-50 on 17 inch rims..... :y :y

If I was buying a full set would not of minded buying a different size ach well .
