Yup it turns out that Swissport took over
Circusair Servisair late last year...
My money is on those selfgratifying dickheads at Unite being difficult, and deliberately buggering up the rostering. >:(
There are no baggage handling vacancies last time I looked, so they are mis staffing rather than short staffed...
Doubt it be long before BA recommence their own handling again :-\
-
Do you need a taxi home? ::)
I might add in a fast (but you feel every bump....trouble with low profile tyres) Octavia ;)
-
Better not be any problems for my flight tomorrow, Gatwick tries my patience on a good day but it nowhere near as bad as the Check-in area for Eurostar Paris-side.
-
Checkin was an abortion. As my bro arrived about 45m before me, we were able to jump straight in as we were booked as one party. As we left to go through security, there was plenty of heated rants from passengers on the verge of missing flights due to queue at Sleazy's bag drop.
For the first time in years, I had time to have a breakkie at the airport.
I never fail to be amazed how catastrophically inefficient UK airports are.
-
Didn't fancy the "one bag" "pre check in" company them.?
Turn up.
Go through security.
Frankie and bennys or Burger King, (depending on Luton or Stanstead) while waiting for the gate number.
Show printed boarding card at gate.
Get on plane.
Bag in locker.
Headfones on. (To block out scratch card announcements )
Get off plane with bag.
Walk through pass port control.
Get in hire/friends/borrowed/own car or taxi home.
Seemples. :)

Always try to avoid checking bags, on recent stag trip to Ireland, we turn up. Pop details in self checkin, boarding cards printed and off to security we go.
Only delay is when some idiot thinks 'no liquids above 100ml' does not apply to them ::)
-
Sadly, for a week in a rented villa, its not viable going without a case. Sleazy would have been fine if no cases, as its not checkin any more, its just bag drop. Which takes just as long as checkin.
As said, I was OK, as my bro got there early (as did I, but not as early as him), and he got in when the queue was only about 50 mins long.
Cant remember where we ate, one of those TGI/Fatty Arbuckles type places, a perfectly adequate, if somewhat pricey, bacon bap. Too early for a full works for me :-[
Luton I've always found the problem being getting through security - last time I flew from there, that took about 90 mins. Incompitent lot. I think its early morning flights that are the worst. The last 2 years we've been to Cyprus from Birmingham, we've arrived 2.5hrs before the flight departs, and nearly missed the plane both times, due to utter inability of the airport to deal with people.

See, he's not thinking it through is he.
Pick your departure times carefully and there's no need to knock yourself out getting up at a sparrows fart, or battle with rush hour traffic etc
Having just done 10 days in Spain, with golf shoes and clobber and some clothes that went unworn, obviously your completely and utterly wrong about needing a case. A cabin bag is more than enough.
Even H managed on one cabin bag. ;D

break me, we only just managed to get the cases in on the weight limit. Women! Though we obviously have the disadvantage of rented accommodation, so everything has to come out with us. And because flights only come on a Wed, and that's half day closing, we have to bring enough shite to see us through until Thursday morning ;D
Flights here tend to be early morning, so the return can be the same day. T'is the nature of the beast.

A closet golfist! :o
I bet he's got a debadged 320d with M3 alloys stashed somewhere for his trips to the club. ;)

We have stayed in Cyprus, btw. And I fail to see the difference in rented a rented villa and a brother in laws villa as ours was on Spain?
End of the day, all you need is testicles spectacles wallet and watch. That is to say, bring what you can comfortably, and the rest can be bought out there....
....because NOTHING and I do mean NOTHING is worth the pain of baggage check in and reclaim. Nothing. Even if it means leaving extra purchased essentials out there. Opps that for a laugh.
So. Repeat after me.
Testicles spectacles wallet and watch. :y
A line from the Last Indian I think?

Oi, wash your mount Mr Wood!
It is part of the unwritten rule of staying in her Brothers villa, that golf must be played, and the owner allowed to win. This is normally no problem, as I haven't played since the last time I went out there in 2013.
No practice. Straight into a 50 strong society on the second of two days of golf. And we won our pairs of which I won most of the first 8 holes. Needles to say the standard was quite low. But to be commended I think.
Now, what was that about a blue and white badge? >:(
;D

Nope. Didn't catch any of that. There are plenty of BMW drivers here, though, so I'll get one of them to translate that "golfist speak" later. :y

Well that was a rather distaster! >:(
Plane was delayed 45 mins coming in due to weather, fine I thought. I quick coffee qnd we were boarding.
We sat on the tarmac for nearly 3 hours before we took off! Then arriving at Lyon the ground staff weren't expecting us so there was only a skeleton crew so it took another hour for the baggage. I just said to my client, "buckit, I am off to the hotel, no point in me coming to work for 90 mins!
It's nobody's fault really; just bad luck with the weather, but I wonder where I stand with that european law on delays....?
-
Just been reading about a new twist to airport theft.
A few days ago at Malaga a little old lady from Eastern Europe stole bags from reclaim and then despite the security staff seeing her on cameras, managed to escape. How? Who knows. Got out and back on a flight home with other folks suitcases? I always thought that part of an airport is "secure".
Last time I flew, I got held up by "Mr 100's or litres of liquids". He had enough perfume to start a cash and carry. No wonder it takes 45 minutes to clear security. Mind you they had to call the top man to have a look at my boxed empty, brand new gearbox oil filling pump! So maybe someone behind me was cursing too.

There will be some element of supplies in a family accommodation is my point.
BTW, I'm with you on baggage, but no bloody chance with this lot. Mrs TB being one of the top culprits
-
Apparently Swissport recruited a number of baggage handlers a couple of months ago...
Mostly school leavers, the average length of employment before quitting is three shifts for those that cannot stomach the job. The biggest issue though, is that the weekend early shifts are run on a voluntary basis :o
So basically the only people who show up to work are those time served employees who actually value their jobs...

as ive always suspected, there's even the golfist other favourite car a lexus. which I do believe,is in the house :)
-
Nout wrong with a lexus. You can tell their reliable as they are near the top of dtm's most unreliable and not a Vauxhall list. Mmmm must be almost bomb proof then ;D

Not sure the guy who does the TD chips would agree ;D
On the occasions it worked without dumping fluids in a big bag of cloud, it was awfully quick though. Trouble is, being an import, you had to pull the ABS fuse to go over 110, and that always resulted in a tail wiggle when the autobox changed gear.
