1 year in owning a 'W' 2000 Omega MV6 3ltr auto ,no major issues except one annoying problem. Every now and then the TC
light comes on engine temperature goes sky high ( not true temp ) engine revs up and down with burning smell. Cant turn off light. Stop car switch off ignition, restart light goes off continue driving. Now this brought new trouble, stop car, switch off ignition restart car except ignition lights come on but nothing, totally dead. Changed ignition switch, everything seemed ok, that was short lived. TC light comes on, stop car switch off restart, but dead leave a couple of minutes fires right back up. This happening more frequently, can anyone help ? Can I disable the little bugger ?

Have a read of Kevin Wood's battery charger guide in Maintenance Guides - wondering if its overcharging, upset the electronics.
-
Hi, yeah checked battery and charging all seemed to be ok. This seems to be a new development with this little problem.
-
Just wondering, have you checked the engine earth(s)?
When you say 'totally dead', does it crank and not start or doesn't even crank?
Carl,
-
it's dead. There is no life, the ignition light is on. No cranking, no nothing. Dead... Dead...Dead...
-
If its that dead, check all the main fuses in the box above the battery.
-
Worth checking the lead that goes to the starter motor with a tester to see if power is there....if it is then could be starter motor.... :y
-
Could still be an engine earth issue, missing or bad earth can cause all sorts of weird and wonderful issues including not starting..
Looking on the TIS, there is no fuse between the battery and starter motor..
Carl,

Try connecting a jump lead under the bonnet from the engine block to the battery negative terminal, and see if problem resolves itself
If so, then its engine earth as others have suggested :y

Ok everybody seems to be picking up on the non starting. NO the problem is the TC light coming on. The car works perfectly 99.9% of the time, then for no reason on a rare occasion the TC light comes on. I cant turn it off other than turn ignition off & on then restart, but the car is dead. No life, turn ignition back again then turn key & car starts ! . Have noticed trouble a day or so after jet washing car at work. Though I've just stopped cleaning the car that way, working progress.

TC light ideally needs codes read, but unless you have snagged an ABS lead, on a post 1998 Omega is more likely to be the start or an ABS ECU fault. About £200 to repair if you send it off, but a "bit of a challenge" to remove and refit.

When your profile says MV6 is it really an MV6 or is it ex police?
The reason for asking is that my ex plod was an accident investigation unit which had previously had a switch fitted to enable the Abs to be turned off in order to measure surface friction as part of any investigation. Thames Valley Police used to also disable the Tc switch so that it couldn't be switched off... Mine came with some dubious wiring which used to turn the Abs light on randomly... Had to rewire the Tc switch to cure it...:y

I had my TC light coming on last night on the way home from work, mainly on the exiting of roundabouts, what caused this :)

Probably a combination of your special tyres with the silver highlights, coupled with a heavy right foot and a splash of rain ::) ;D

I thank you for your in-depth help and prompt resolution of the TC problem, so basically I need less water. ;D :D

Not a 100% but I seem to remember the previous owner mentioning ex-cop ? Though I haven't seen anything to confirm it.
It doesn't have cruise control, quite a bit gap in the dash, no screen/stereo. ( has digital radio now real modern ) only speakers in the front, some other owner wired in a massive amp/speaker in boot, all gone.
So far past 2 weeks no TC light, no jet washing. It does work when properly, wet road heavy right foot and TC kicks in then goes away, takes away my fun like my days in Sennys.

Post up a picture of the speedo, soon tell you one way or tother... :y
-
Gonna get round to posting photo of speedo. Had another break down, another call out. TC light came on almost immediately, pulled up switched ignition off, went to restart and dead ! . Although this time a very faint click on turn of key. Breakdown came out I gave brief update and pointed finger at starter motor/electrical trouble. Thank god it still played up when recovery tried. Know how I said earth already checked ::) , put additional earth on after we discovered tiny amount of power going to starter. Turned the key and it fired up, BUGGER !. Got home, use the garage opposite my house, put on new earth and hopefully sorted all my silly issues with the TC light and non-starting.
Cheers for advice and help, lets hope its sorted
