Title: What to do !!
Post by: joff on 23 August 2014, 23:06:01
Well it's been a few weeks more than I would of liked but I got the DTI up and running today after a full de-coke of the head and inlet manifold, thing is I was going to sell the DTI estate and run the 2.6 LPG as the main run around. ???

But after the last few weeks driving the 2.6 (without LPG working) I have found that it needs more than I wanted to do to it. So I'm thinking pull the 2.6 apart and keep the LPG system and fit it to the 3.2 Elite. ;)

Keep the DTI for main run around, :-\ :-\

Can I take the LPG system off the saloon with a full take of gas?  :-\

In theory, yes, provided the tank solenoid defaults to closed when the power is cut...

iirc yours has a tap as well, so isolating the tank should be effective and straightforward :y

Thanks Al, it's make your mind up time in the morning as I am running out of time to get things done. Have to go up to Scotland in ten days time and think I will take the DTI as the elite needs the wheel bearing doing on the O/S rear. Only having one or two days off in that time and the weather is set to be crap this week. :(

Personally I would strip the 2.6 and keep the DTi.

Personally I would strip the 2.6 and keep the DTi.

Driving home from work this morning I arrived at the same conclusion.

Bad Points

1. Fuel tank in the 2.6 is now running very low (can't say just how much) as the gauge keeps going on and off
2. Handbrake lever only holds when it wants too
3. I think the rear springs or shocks have gone as it's arsenal is lower than an ants rear end
4. Diff is spilling out its contents (oil) from its nose
5. Needs all new front wishbones and bushes, droplinks and track rods and then full set up.

Good Points

1. Has new Vauxhall cam belt kit and water pump (fitted by me only weeks ago)
2. New yes new CCR2006 with code (again only a few weeks old) not Bose.
3. Stag 300+ LPG KIT (reason I got the Mig in the first place)
4. Both level sensors work
5. 4 good tyres on CDX rims which will fit the DTI.

Most of which can go on the elite ( not the head unit) when needed.

OK we're is my tool box

You missed the largest bad point... the identity issue :-\

Ok, I know that has been resolved to a point, but even so...

Don't think I forgot that Al, but you are right. I think it has sun glasses on too.

Just been out in it for the last time and the steering pump is giving up, and best of all it started running out of fuel 200mtrs from home :y the rest can go in the mower when I take the tank out.

All I need now is for this rain to stop so the tools can come out.

The 2.6 was also burning oil at the Oxford meet, more than just valve stem seals, more like piston rings I'd say  :-\.

Yes I have seen that, could have been the sods that fitted the LPG not taking the inlet manifold off to drill it :'( think the engine will stay in this one when it goes.

Well my 2.6 uses a bit of oil (my 3.2 doesn't use any between changes and neither did the previous one) and I'm slowly convincing myself it's piston rings as it doesn't appear to be valve stem seals.

Have you had the heads off for a de-coke, two of the valve guide seals on number one pot on the DTI were gone, after checking the valve stem size was correct I can't see any reason why they went and at only 120k ???

Yeh heads have been off as it had a top end rebuild about 22K ago. My long term plans probably point to dropping a 3.2 in it - It has an AR35 in it already, even with 3.0 Cams, inlet and divider it's still a way from the grunt of the bigger engines (It brings that home whenever I jump in my 3.2) although the 2.6 does consume less fuel.

I have a 3.2 lump in the garage out of the MV6 with 120k on it :y
Not looking for a lot for it.

You know the solution to that ;), if only other demands on your pocket money didn't delaying it  :'(, it would have paid for itself by now

Indeed....

Ah well, only three MOT's over the next couple of months, what can possibly go wrong?  ::) ;D

To be fair the final bits and pieces are coming together for the 2.6 now, a pair of discs, OEM pads and four new tyres on the 3.2 and a pair of droplinks and rear shocks on the Alhambra and hopefully we'll be there!

Mind you, I don't fancy LPGing the 2.6 in December  ::)

Looks like I could be LPGing the Elite at the same time, only thing in my favour is the loom is sorted and even if the the 2.6 loom does not work I have another 3.2 one in the garage from the MV6
