Title: Radiator sensor refitting
Post by: VXL V6 on 26 August 2014, 16:07:03
Bit of a dumb question really!

Going to reuse the sensors off my radiator on my new radiator on the 2.6, presumably a clean up of the copper washer with some fine emery paper would be advisable? or do I just replace the washers?

NB. Sensors are fine - not had an oil cooler failure, just a leaking radiator.  :y

Re-anneal it if you can and re-fit, you could put a wipe of liquid PTFE on the threads or a couple of turns of PTFE tape if you want.

Encountered 3 gm facelift omega radiators in the lest week or so, and each one had Dowty washers behind the sensors. Just did. :)

When I changed my radiator the copper washers appeared to seat on the plastic of the header tank.

I didn't bother annealing the washers I just wiped them clean and used a smear of Blue Hylomar to help with the seal.

It seems to have worked. Magical stuff Hylomar, I used to get through loads of the stuff when I used old British motorbikes as daily transport  ;)
