Hi to everyone,
Having just purchased a 2001 2.2 CD I thought that the timing belt sounded a little noisy. There was a sticker under the bonnet saying that the belt and rollers had been replaced last year (15,000 miles ago)
I took the cover off and couldn't believe my eyes, the wrong belt had been fitted, almost 10 mm too narrow, and the washer behind the right hand roller had not been fitted. The roller had chaffed at the rear and the belt had been running backwards and forwards at will on the water pump and guides as none of them were in line!
Needless to say they have all been replaced, including a water pump just in case! The belt was just about to come off!
Some cowboy garages should be shot!!! Hope that no-one else has had their belt changed in Sittingbourne in Kent! :o

Very lucky escape! If the name of the garage is on the sticker I would go and have a word! >:(

2.2?
There is no washer behind the idlers, in my experience? Only see this on V6 models.
-
Correct, they are on cast stand offs one with the running flange to the outer and one to the inner
-
Will have to check that, There didn't appear to be a cast stand off on the engine, the edge of the roller was rubbing at the back and wearing. I fitted the Vauxhall belt and rollers so would hope that they are right.
