Yesterday, I took a train from Wales to London. The route was via Gloucester.
Shortly after leaving Gloucester, an announcement asked the train manager to contact the driver
Shortly after, an announcement stated that the train had gone the wrong way and would have to reverse etc.
Now cars go the wrong way, pedestrians go the wrong way, even planes under human control can go the wrong way. But a train running on tracks. Obviously not the fault of the train company, I think that signalling etc is done by Network Rail.
Hmmmmmmm

Yes it can happen, and providing it is not against red signals when on the wrong line then you should be ok! ;D ;D ;D ;D
A signal and point setting mistake I expect but Seth no doubt will confirm more ;)

London / Wales is usually via Bristol and I think only goes via Gloucester on some Sundays when maintenance happens :y

Oh yes, as I said Jason, the train could have gone through a red and ended up on the wrong line. Passing reds is apparently all too common, but in the vast majority of cases the train stops in time. Outside Paddington at Ladbrooke Grove infamously was a case when the train did not stop and rammed into a HST from Bristol in 1999!
So anything is still possible! :( :(

Of course, but it must be of some concern that a person or computer or whatever that controls things, sends a London express towards somewhere else

Line was closed this morning in that area... ::)

Reading station has been closed this morning after a mother and child were killed under a train :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(.
The police are treating it as suspicious.

That being the incident at SLOUGH... Trains are now running, but station is still locked down.
The area where Rog had his detour was closed this morning.

After just two days, it's all got a bit frantic here, East of the River Severn. So, off back to slow civilization tomorrow. By car . . . . (double the cost of train thought :o )
