Post by: badmuver on 22 September 2014, 16:22:44
Hello, I need a bit off help to identify two breather pipes  as in the pic, as they have split and have no part number on them  :(

One on the right is the vent hose from crankcase part #90499659
Small one on the left is vent hose from inlet manifold part # 90528437

There's a modification for the one on the right - involves cutting it in half and fitting a filter box which has a gauze in it.

Is this a standard fit on later cars, if not is it advised and is there a part number for the filter :-\

Cheaper to get that part from a scrappy if you really want to fit it

It was generally fitted to cars that suffered with the base idle problem as part of a TIS notification. I have one somewhere so should be able to find you a part number. I believe a second hand one should be fine as you can clean the gauze quite easily.

Ok so a low mileage 2003 car is unlikely to benefit from it then :-\

Just like the V6's, regular oil changes and breather cleaning is the key. That crankcase breather pipe does crumble after a while regardless.

Which reminds me, I haven't cleaned the breathers on the 2.6 for over 21K  :-X Mind you it lives mainly on the motorway and has 3 - 4K oil changes (so one at least every month)....
