Title: Key Fob Interference
Post by: cleggy on 23 September 2014, 19:17:50
I have noticed that sometimes I have to be stood right next to the CAR for the fob to operate the doors, even in some spots having to use the key. Normally it's fine, but the common denominator is the proximity to mobile phone masts. >:( >:(
Do others suffer this problem ???

Yes, outside one supermarket in roughly the same place, another is outside the local shops and all I can see is a bloody great green mast.

Omega ones are 433Mhz, and its a pretty packed frequency.

Try putting the metal stalk of the key against your head and press the fob...increases the signal. Think there was a thread on here about doing this. It also increases the range.

And before you say it doesn't work...it most certainly does !!!!!!  :y My grandkids think its great and are always seeing how far from the car they can get

Video senders, wireless alarms, anything that needs a wireless connection that doesn't use Wifi or Bluetooth.

When I first started this recovery job, we were picking up several Astras a week from Horsted Retail park outside Toys R Us.  All with suspected alarm/immobiliser faults that mysteriously stopped when the car got to its destination. This problem suddenly stopped about six months after it started. We suspect that something being worked on at BAE systems about 1/4 mile away was affecting them.

We still pick up similar problems with aftermarket alarms(and Subarus for some reason!) from the hospital, move them to the bottom of the road and have no problems.

Plenty of old ones still in use.  But the point I was making is, as well as the short term signalling bursts such as car remotes, the frequency has plenty of constant transmissions.

Some fobs are just better. No idea why. A colleague vec-b key had a good (for GM) range, so when he traded it in, I swapped fobs over, and reprogrammed ::)

I have a modern GM vehicle. The range on the fob is amazing. I asked wifey to stand next to the car on the fifth floor of a multi-storey and zapped it from the ground floor. It worked.

This thread has raised an interesting point for me.

Usually my fob locks/unlocks the car at some range. Sometimes though I can stand right beside it and it won't unlock, then suddenly it does. Thinking about it after reading some comments on here I realise this happens outside Sainsbury's, but rarely anywhere else.

Is that down to signal interference of some kind? ???

Did you get that from the same web page that said i phones are microwavable?

My heads made of wood.

Thinking of upgrading my phone. On reading the specs, it says its water proof to a metre.

On reading reviews one says " A bit scary testing the phone in a glass of water.."

I recon the same guy probably tested his crash rating of his renault megane.

Not sure if crash testing a Renault is brave or stupid... :o

Fairly certain Renault only test them because they legally have to regardless of the result ;D

Yes, I remember all of the Vectra B's I had had terrific range on the key fobs.
