Title: Removing data from broken iPhone 4
Post by: JamesV6CDX on 26 September 2014, 11:53:35
My old iPhone 4 has broken. The battery port had de soldered itself from the circuit board (I guess it's the motherboard)

I want to pop it on eBay for spares. Is there any way I can wipe the phone first?
I can't get iTunes to talk to it due to no battery input and it's all to small for me to solder a port on

I have nothing questionable on there but if someone got into the phone they'd find saved passwords etc and would work out my address and occupation via various texts if they looked hard enough

It has a code to open the phone but no idea how secure that is or if it can be bypassed.

In short any advice on wiping it or if anyone could see my data please?

If it's not possible to make it secure I will just destroy it rather than take the risk :y

That would still need power on the device and it sounds like there is none :(

If its only the batt connector, can't you just plug it in to gaytunes, and do a full factory reset?

Personally, I'd avoid phones on egay. That's just a little bit daft, young'un.

Plenty of spare parts available for the iphone 4 / 4S
Strip it (fiddly I know) and replace whatever parts needed  ;)

Presumably he's already stripped it to know what the fault is...  ...else I'd be shoving in a £5 battery, and seeing if that fixed it ::)
