Title: High mileage Omega
Post by: Stuart30 on 26 September 2014, 21:15:06
Ok so its just a general question...just curious about how people view high mileage and what indeed is high mileage to you.?

Ive seen (online) a car local to me and well with in budget...its a 2.5 petrol but mileage is 185k.

Worth a look or walk away...what do you think.

My dad always told me that cars with 100k on them are not worth the hassle. Butthat was years ago.

There's loads of cars on here with over 200k and 300k. So as long as you check the car's functioning correctly then it wouldn't concern me.

Ps, mine's on 107k... and on here it's considered a young pup  :y

All depends on how well they've been looked after. My Omega & previous Senator were both sold with around 180k on the clock, both were great. The Smart was bought with 37k on the clock & subsequently had to spend a load on it to lack of proper care & attention.

Guess that's the key..how its been maintained.

Im assuming a V6 will take such high miles better than a 4 pot...must admit im bloody tempted as its pretty cheap and decent spec.

Apart from a slight incontinence problem, and more bodywork issues due to be older, my 218k 3.0l is a far better car than my 90k 3.2l

That is THE crucuial issue on a high mileage car. Our Senator had 240k+ miles on it when I traded it in for an Omega, and we only did that due to the rear arches showing the usual curse! My 19 year old Toyota Carina II I kept going from 160K to 250k and it would have done another 50k at the very least, but the bodywork was starting to let it down, so back to an Omega!

Modern engines are not like those of 40 years ago when we reckoned one doing 100k was basically over the hill, and of course then the bodywork would quickly follow in those days pre-rust underbody treatment. Today engines seem to run and run if well serviced, and it IS the bodywork that leads so many good engines to the scrapper! :'( :'(

Service history helps if its been reguarly maintained. Sold my Carlton GSI manual with 375k on it and still driving perfectly. It made way for the superior FL model Omega I bought

Scrapped my 350,000+ Carlton Cdi Manual and it was used as a mini cab, but Morris semi synthetic + filter every 5000 miles, engine still sounded great, but the diff was another matter :y
