Title: Over 24hrs without water
Post by: Broomies Mate on 26 September 2014, 22:49:55
Well, Bristol Water are hard at work, and have been since about 10am.... but I still have no mains water, along with 8,000 other homes.

A Trunk Main burst yesterday at about 17:00.  At it's peak, 24,000 homes were without water.

The Main is very close to a Gas main, which had to be inspected and isolated before work could start on the Water Main (hence only starting at 10:00).

I made the mistake of having a Kebab with gallons of Lava (sold as Chilli Sauce) tonight, and now I could really do with a poo.  :-[

Could be worse though - Those living on the road where the Main burst were flooded - I suppose they are in a hotel though, where they can vacate their bowels in comfort.

There's people around the world, who don't have water from one day to the next and they survive, you have a minor inconvenience of 24 hour's, of no water, you could drive somewhere else in comfort, and get water, use a,toilet. Stop wineing!

Seems to have happened a lot lately - one in Oxford flooded parts of Cowley this week, and local news on about a burst water main cutting through a gas pipe, filling that with water and shite, somewhere near the south coast.

I agree, but those people are not used to showering every day, or using flushing toilets, washing machines, dish washers and generally having clean, drinkable water 'on tap'.  If it's something you have never had, you don't miss it.  ::)

Anyway, water is now back on... Well done to the blokes who worked all day and night in a big hole in the ground to rectify the problem.  I had a shower this morning and now feel human again.

Feel a bit naughty waterting the grass for the last hour. NOT :P

I love my water supplier...they fitted a water meter and bodged the job of fitting it,turns out we had a drip for 18 months.

It was fitted right at the back of a double 1000 unit (90 degree base units) and it wasn't until the carcass couldn't suck up any more water, the puddle appeared.

Long story short...Anglian water sent out an independent chap to view the damage and he instructed a local firm of bodgers to come give a quote.

Damage was two 1000mm base units (wickes jobbies) and a few rolls of wall paper (damp soaked into wall shared with living room)...so maybe £250 in materials and a day to fit unit and paper front room.

The quote received was £4500 (yes that's 4.5k) plus VAT and work would take 1 week..... :o

I was offerd a settlement cheque for £3500..... :y

Big Griffin...yes I am to blame for your high water charges... ;D ;D

Wife did wall paper in front room £100 ish and base units are fine, not seen and only support work top,the specialist firm brought into dry the wall/units did such a good job and billed Anglian water direct.
