Title: All Inc holiday question
Post by: powerslinky on 27 September 2014, 13:08:45
hi guys,
just back from a week in the Canaries . . . & very nice it was too :y

But . . .    opinions on this please :   we went all inclusive , landed at 19.45 & arrived at the hotel at 21.00 on the Friday & were scheduled to leave the following Friday at 18.00 for the 20.15  flight back .

Room had to be vacated by 12noon on the last day , no problem as that is usual . However , when returning the key card at 11am & telling reception the the room was clear, we had to give back our All inclusive wristbands & were told that our all inclusive had now finished .

Our plan to have lunch & then a few drinks around the poolside for the afternoon were therefore scuppered :( :(

Just wondering if this is normal  A I practice now ? :-\   as the hotel staff say it is .  I asked to see the manager but he would not come out of his office &  discuss it , he would only relay messages through his staff saying if we wanted all inclusive until we leave at 18.00 , it will be another 35 euros  each :o :o

In  the end we had lunch & drinks in the bar across the road  as you are unable to pay for drinks or food during the day as this is an A I only hotel  ::).  But as we went to get our luggage there was  a big argument going on with others guests  who had been told by reception that the same will apply to them on their leaving day .

Anyone got any thoughts on this ?

Have a whinge at the tour company... you should reasonably have been made aware of this when you booked :-\

Might get a voucher for next holiday...

Was your lunch less than €35 per person? If so then you're ahead :y

Fair point  . . . but I had not come across this before  . . . never had an issue with other  AI hotels I've stayed at & theres been a fair few.

You are paying for for 7 days AI but are  only actually  getting 6.5 . . . even worse if you arrive at say 11pm  :o :o

But for future ref.   an early morning flight will sort this  :y :y

It seems reasonable to me too to be honest.

You check in at 12 (or 3 as is the usual these days) so there's your half a day. Then checking out at 12 on the final day is the other half day.

Unless my maths is all cocked  ::) ;D

Seems it's the norm Webby . . . just that after 15 or so AI holidays we have never had this issue before  . .  guess we've been lucky   . .  but have noted that it is probably the norm  & we will know from now on . ;) ;)

Well, if after 15 or so AI holidays you've never come across this Big Al, then I'd say it's the exception rather the norm.  ;)

The thing to do in future is to check if the hotel allows AI on the last day after checkout and if they don't take your custom elsewhere that does!  :y

Or if they dont....spend the morning ordering and gathering up food/drinks .... to enjoy in the afternoon (ice might have melted by then tho! )  :y

Ah !  may have an answer to this now courtesy of a neighbours daughter who works in travel  .

When you book, you book for 7 nights, 10 nights, 14 nights etc.   so it seems the daytime is out of te equation  & the  hotels can do what they want with facilities etc. to suit themselves  :-\

The phase  "in the small print"   comes to mind   ::) ::)

Still had a great time though & even sweeter when I found we had paid under half of what most others had paid with the big tour operator for this hotel  ;D ;D

I usually drop a few euros on the head barman and keep him on good terms early on, better service I.e beer glasses from the freezer , bigger measures etc . Never failed and never had an issue on the last day.

Probably cost more to buy & send the postcard than buy the 200 superkings Ian

200 Superkings , bensons, rothmans, silk cut etc   are £21  out there  :o

You're only supposed to bring back 200 each though  . . . as did we  ;D ;D

AI all seem to be a law unto themselves, hence personally, we very rarely use them. Last one I stayed at was really restrictive as to what was included and when.

But, as the booking company sorted it all out, including flights and xfers, you could reasonably expect it to be covered.
