Hi there. My trusty 2.5td has served me well but although id keep driving her for another few years ive gotten lucky and can afford a better one. Can someone help me with priced?
Want a 3.2 elite estate with gas conversion and low miles and must be super mint.
Price for. ...... less than 50k miles
Up to 70k miles.
Also with full history and receipts.
Big ask yes and I know the 3.2 estates with low miles are hard to find.
If I cant find a gas converted one, how much would it cost to buy a 2nd hand kit or to pay someone to fit.
Thanks

A really mint one could be £4k, but others as low as £900 (or less)! It depends on so much, but personally pay as much as you can afford for the best available, remembering that such low mileage ones are becoming very rare and attracting higher prices. ;)
-
I wouldn't be that bothered with mileage to be hones as they are a tough unit and anything with LPG will have been converted for a reason, usually because a lot of mileage is being covered. I would be more inclined to buy something for a grand or so and go right through it with new cambelt, suspension, rocker gaskets, ATF change and a sump clean up. Just my opinion ;)
-
Wow. 4k is quite a bit. Will be up on about 2.5-3k I'll want to spend. Want a motor that I can drive for at least 5 years and doesn't need anything bodywork wise.

You're shit out of luck then ::)

Ah, that's so cruel! :o :o ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)
I did say that was the maximum for a minter. :D :D

£2k is enough for a mint one imo 8) There is plenty around ;)
-
I've done a search on the net. Omegas range from £15 for a poor example, right up to £120 for a decent one.
HTH.

For an Omega with " less than 50k miles Up to 70k miles".?? :o ???

Buy us one then Steve! I'll go up to £120 for a 50K one. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;) ;)

Assuming you have the same hoops as we do, don't bother with 2nd hand LPG tanks, as they have to be rechecked after 10yrs (and its cheaper to replace the tank).

Whats it cost to get one put in?

Blimey Lizzie. let me know where I can buy a 3.2 LPG Elite Estate with 50 to 70k on the clock for less than 900 notes, I might buy a couple. :D

Steve reckons he can pick em up for £120! :o :o :o
I have asked him to get one, so add one for you to the list! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)
No, I can expect that a low mileage one that has rust showing and is showing signs of age due to mistreatment could be available for a low price. Don't forget though that even my minter is only worth £800 max on webuyanycar.com!! ::) ::) ::) :o :o :o ;D ;D ;D

That's only because WBAC are a bunch of greedy onanists looking to guarantee a hefty profit when the bung it through BCA...
Apparently my E class is worth a mere £13.5k... Even my local Vx dealer offered me a minimum of £15k against a new Zafira B with a 40% discount ;D
Can pretty much guarantee £16k if it went to auction today :-X
-
Hell, even my insurers valued my thrice written off 270k ex plod/ex taxi at £950 8 months ago...
... Silly bastids ;D

The sort of car desired here is very rare these days. When they do come up its usually a known used omega dealer that finds them. Not so much DK anymore, but Roger Bhuden and 7star have had this type of car lately.
I guess they have contacts at dealers that punt out chopped in omegas.
I'd guess they buy at 2-3 k and wack a hefty mark up on it to 4-5k. Then be prepared to sit and wait. They all sell in the end.
Having said that insurers won't pay out much more than 3k on any standard omega these days. Any extras would mean an addition to the premium.
Lpg fittng. 1500 to 2k depending on kit professionally fitted. Several of us have fitted stag kits diy for about 7-800 quid or so.
Buying privately, and being very patient, you could potentially achieve your goals for about 3.5k with lpg fitted diy. But you could be waiting a long time for the right car and face stiff competition when it does eventually come up.
I paid 3k for mine at auction with 70k in goid nic. But it still needed a fair bit of work. Although that was a 3 years ago now. I think :-\
Ps Thanks to Josh Wyatt for his help at the Auctions. :y

I did the cam belt and water pump on a mint Elite at the weekend. It had done less than 50,000 miles and had cost the new owner £1100 :)

By my reckoning, that's £980 too much.

I was offered £350 for mine in px. My mot runs out on 26 Oct and needs new exhaust which will cost £650 before master fit discount which I assume replicates current dual branch system. Not sure what to do with it - had a chat with Al and have asked dealer to hold on exhaust for moment.
I am not at all sure what to do with it given it is worth so little. I just need a City type car and may buy Agila which I am using at present from dealer and it is great for the job and bags of headroom.
I might dump the Omega on Al's drive when he is not in one day.

Phil, if you let that car go for less than £1500 (and even then...) you need shooting.
..... Seriously..... !
As to what to do with it. FIX IT! :y
-
I am out tomorrow morning... ::)
-
Although.... I doubt Vx will have that exhaust anywhere in stock.
...I doubt Irmscher uk have it themselves. Contract Irmscher de. ...?

So am I actually. ;D

Nothing on their sites :-\

Nothing on ebay de either. For Estate ;) ....but not saloon.

Dealer is now struggling with part numbers etc for exhaust and it has been quiet all day - so still have courtesy car.
Just spoke to Long Life at Basingstoke who could make exhaust and fit in 2 weeks time so still ok for MOT. Cost will be £500 fitted. Just spoke to former Service manager of my VX dealer who is now at a different dealership who reckons a re-slieving of back box would work given mileage I do.

Where exactly is the rusted section ?
It's usually the section behind the rearmost silencer to the john that fails.
-
Not had chance to go into garage yet. I am still on original 2001 back boxes.
-
Going back to original topic price for mine in book is £350 in good condition and £230 for fair condition. So square root of bugger all. A few niggling faults with mine which I ignore but will I accept make it difficult to get up to the £1500 mark.

Book doesn't account for irmscher everything though. Does it!
The irmscher stuff alone is worth £1500. Forget the car.
Sport stars. Air dam, skirts, rear bumper with duplex exhaust. Steering wheel.
Then add in Head unit. Gid. Leather interiors with memory.
....well, except the exhaust of course that buggered ;D... but I'm sure somebody could graft on a new box to the irmscher pipes for less than £650 or whatever it was, for a new item. Might be a bit louder though.
Put that in ebay with exhaust and mot expect £1500 minimum. MINIMUM.
-
I thought the irmscher exhausts where stainless anyway? :-\ makes me think it's the mid section TOO the silencer section. Not the silencer itself so much, although the pipes to the bix todo rust a bit.

Either way 13 years is a pretty strong effort for an exhaust in anyones book :y

Went into garage and a lady who better understood the issue has got it sorted I hope now. The mid section mufflers are now ordered from VX and some slieving from somewhere else. With my "discount" this brings exhaust to £400. I have said proceed. Hope it doesn't fail on emissions for some other reason after exhaust fitted.
-
Hopefully that will see it right :y

Thanks Al - all sorted now and serviced as well for less than original quote for exhaust. 12 months to 23 October 2015 so another year of Omega possibly. It drives so much better now.
Shame to surrender the Agila - been using it all week including couple of 25 mile round trips and it has consumed just 12 litres of petrol

Do your joints still work :o seriously though, the Agila weighs approximately half an Omega so I would hope it to be more economical...
Glad it's sorted though :y Who knows, this time next year, I might have space on the drive for it...
-
It will be a few months before I go hunting and ive no doubt that when ive cash in my pocket it'll take a while to find a nice one.
What do you need to watch for on estates and the 3.2? Is there any prone areas to rust that isn't the norm with a saloon? What are there common issues/faults? Any electrical gremlins with having alot more thsn a td tractor?
-
Estates rust on the tailgate as well as rear arches and front chassis rails.
Other issues are standard Omega items:
Hbv
Coil packs
Cam covers
Oil cooler if poor coolant maintenance
Sludged breathers
Suspension bushes/front wishbones
Steering idler
Cranksensor
All easy enough to sort :y
-
Tbh you're better off looking to see if PSNI have any left, and buying that regardless of mileage.
Plod cars make a good blank canvas...
Also worth considering that crap fleet cars don't do a high mileage as they're always in the garage ::)
-
It's been a while from I started this thread but I finally got round to replacing the td saloon. Poor old girl had about 20 tesco door dings on one side and soon bastid keyed the life out of her but she drove like a dream was only one thing I hated and that was load capacity.
So I naturally replaced it with the only thing I could.
A 2000 2.5td elite estate in graphite meca ll
She's got 150k miles
Chipped
Manual
box removed (real lovely gouwl)
And drives really lovely and a big comfortable tank with standard suspension all round. My old saloon was lowered so I'm loving the comfort at the mo.
Only one iggle. Must be a super low ratio diff as she's got a low top end and I'm changing gear dead early but problem solved as I've my old lsd bought back.
Well please. Will get a couple of snaps up now

Twin pipes on a TD?

Steimetz from the shape ;)
Irmscher ones are still available for the diesels too :y

Not sure what the tail pipe is but lololol it's just connected to a straight pipe :D :D ;D ;D
