Title: Help with part identification
Post by: RolandL on 13 October 2014, 21:45:16
Sorry I don't have a picture of the part but I will do my best to describe it.  My car is a mini facelift 2.5 V6 '99 Elite saloon.

The part looks a little like a flying saucer and sits on the top of the right side of the radiator.  It has a hose that goes to the secondary air pump and has a small rubber 90deg hose from the top edge to a short, hard plastic vacuum hose to another short small rubber hose.

First question,      what is this part and what does it do.
On mine the short rubber 90deg hose that has the vac hose in, has perished where it goes into the main body of the part.  What effect will this have? Can I live without it ? does it need to be replaced?

Hope that made sense.   :)

Sounds like the secondary air injection valve to me.
I'll have a look at my breaker for you in morning to see if mines intact  :y

The secondary Air injection can be bypassed but any vacuum leak on a v6 will screw up the running so it definitely needs sorting  :)
