Title: Cable Cutter
Post by: amba on 14 October 2014, 22:30:31
Can anybody point me in the right direction for sourcing a wire cutter that will just expose the internal core without cutting through..ie just removing a small section of the outer sheath.

Sure I saw such a tool but cant for the life of me find it by searching...want to tap into live feed on wiring loom but would prefer not cutting right through entire cable

If you're trying to remove a section from the middle of the wire, then I doubt you'll find a tool to do it. A new, sharp Stanley knife blade to gently cut the insulation but not the wire, is probably your best bet. I suspect you could find such a thing without too much trouble.

I have something similar to this http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0002KR95W?pc_redir=1413154326&robot_redir=1

but will only work on the ends of wires...

Sure I saw such a cutter on TV sometime ago.

Seem to remember it cut through the outer plastic sheath at 2 points about 20mm apart then as NickW said you needed to join the 2 cut sections with a sharp blade to remove that section exposing the inner core without cutting through the entire cable

Some Crimp Tools for Red, Blue, Yellow Bulliet or Inline Crimp connectors have a   cutting tool, personally I would just use a knife or stanley, the blunter the better so it wont cut the centre strands, takes seconds to do, well it does for me. :-X
