As per title.. green Estate.
Put my foot down today to get up a hill, was greeted with an AFWUL noise, an oil pressure light, a clatter, a bang, and then..... dead!
The engine block is most definately goosed/seized. Managed to roll off the road and will recover later.
Most annoyingly, I was listening to a good CD when driving - if I hadn't had the stereo up then I would have probably heard the warning signs -- it's dumped it's oil somewhere >:( >:(
-
Just to add, I've never heard engine noises like it in my life. it was like someone shaking a load of nails in a tin - and the crunch, was well - not nice to hear, after the top end work I did on that car :'( :'(
-
That is NOT good after the work you've done ... sounds like something has given way in a major fashion.....
Rebuild/replace engine or scrap ??? I suppose that is now the next decision .. :(
-
oh dear james thats sounds terminal fella :( :(

It's dumped it's oil from somewhere.
Scrap/break/spares repairs - I don't have time to fix it, given that I'm already wrapped up in an LPG conversion and it needs the scratch fixed :'(

O dear O dear!! She is well and truly dead then :o :o :o Poor old girl.

I know this was being done at "minimum cost" - other than your time of course - but will you recoup your outlay if you break it ?? A quick engine transplant from a breaker might make a better return overall ??
Only you can decide really .. :(

I must be honest, I just don't have the time. It will be sold as is, and if I take a loss then so be it! :-[

Break it I think

not much on it worth having really being pre-mini facelift :(

Hmm if i remember right you had the head skimmed by a lot? also didnt this car show signs of not very often oil changes and to top it off had been run with head gasket leaking> you would be surprised how common it is for an engine to blow its bottom end after this scenario!!!
big skim increases comp ratio hence more pressure on big ends
HG BLOWN AND CONTINUE DRIVING ON IT equals oil and water mx which doesent lube the bottom end properly or if no mix causes the oil to overheat trying to compensate for poor water cooling,
oil not changed often enough means the filter blocked so only oil bottom end gets is unfilterd as its going through the bypass valve instead of the filter,
add it all together and you end up with a very tired bottom end which when goven a bit of welly lets go!!!
make sense??

Perfect sense - unfortunately most of the abuse was before I owned it ;D
Oh well, it's all good experience and learning ::)
