My V6 2.5 turned 15 years of age at the end of September and has now given me the first problem ever. It won't start and there's no spark. The engine turns fine.
Suspecting that it is likely to be the crankshaft sensor, I've removed the scuttle and confirmed that it has oval connector. Also, the part number on the sensor is 90492061.
I now have the following questions:
1. Where to source a quality sensor?
I have found this seller who appears to be a Vx garage. The sensor price almost seems too good to be true for a genuine OEM part.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Vauxhall-Crankshaft-Sensor-Omega-V6-2-5-90492061-/271279918841?ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:GB:1123
Do any members have experience of a sensor from this seller?
2. Routing of the replacement
I've read most of the threads and in particular this maintenance guide on the old site.
http://oldsite.omegaowners.com//forum/YaBB.pl?num=1174321688
My question is about the best route for the lead - what's the current favourite routing?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
p.s. The paperclip test produced code 31.
-
Code 31 normal for car with engine not running - code 19 for knackered crank sensor - note though that duff crank sensor does not always throw a code ;)
Routing - down by passenger front wing by abs block.
No experience of that ebay seller - if in doubt go to a Vx stealer - pattern crank sensors are usually bad news.

Is a genuine, real life Vauxhall dealer :y

So probably a safe place to buy it from...
The general concensus is to only buy genuine engine sensors from actual, genuine physical dealers, that you have to walk into to order/collect parts from...
In your case, this would probably be Drive Vauxhall, in Bury St Edmunds :y

Dan Harford is in Kingswood, north east Bristol, on the A420. News to me, but I often pass that way. I see he has a parts store, all Vx. RobG is nearby, he will tell us.
-
Yep. Dan Harford stocks genuine VX
-
Thank you gents.
I had also emailed the seller yesterday and 8:00am this morning received an email confirming that it was genuine vx.

You next question (one I'm in the process of answering for my V6) is which is it? Siemens or Bosch? This matters, and make sure you confirm what's on your vehicle before buying the same one. They're physically interchangeable, but only in so far as you can put diesel in a petrol tank - doesn't mean it'll run! If your car has a Siemens, fit a Siemens. If it's Bosch, fit Bosch! :y
-
Ummm
Photos of the sensor on my car follows.

Based on the following guide, I had assumed that the part number 90492061 woould ensure I received the correct sensor. In this case a Siemens?
http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=96562.0
Is that not the case? Also, how would one tell if it was a Siemens or Bosch item if not from the above information?
-
Your assumption is correct :y
Buying the same Part number as what is attached already is a safe bet :y
-
yup. As it goes, that's a Siemens, but yes, go by the part numbers, always best. :y

An update on my non-starrer 2.5.
The crankshaft sensor from Dan Harford turned up within 48-hours of ordering and is a genuine Vx item manufactured by Siemens.
Fitted to the car today and it fired up on first turn of the key. Routed the sensor lead towards the passenger side inner wing and using a couple of cable ties it is routed well away form the exhaust manifold. So, overall, quite an easy job helped by the aforementioned guide.
I would recommend Dan Harford for supplying the genuine Vx sensor at a very good price.
Thanks you for all the inputs gents.
