SL shocks rubber mounts on an estate, I should know this but I think I may have them the wrong way round. Anyone have a pic of the correct fitment :-[

Thats the way I have the mounts fitted but I'm getting the top of the shock hit the metal cover. Think I will remove and check the thread length of both and see if they are the same, I checked the part numbers were the same when I fitted them on Saturday.
Rob G must be away or sick to miss this one ;D ;D

Not fitted correctly for that to happen...
There should be a rubber bush with the groove in it... the body sits in the groove.
Have you used both washers too :-\
Should be...
Underneath:
Shock body.
Washer.
Rubber bush fitted to body aperture. (The bulk of this bush should be underneath the hole, not above it.)
Above:
Rubber bush with support bush. (Support bush inserts down through lower rubber bush.)
Second washer.
Retaining nut.

As in the pic that was put up, and that is how I fitted them. When I get time and it stops raining I'll pop them off and have a look

If the lower bush is fitted incorrectly then the shock sits too high and the end of the rod fouls the plate...
Had this happen on mine when I reused the mountings first time I changed them... I had also not noticed that the bottom washer had stuck to the old shock body and I therefore didn't swap it to the new shock, compounding the problem :-[ so it didn't take long to trash the lower rubber.
Solution in the end was to buy the mounting kit separately from Vauxhall. No problem since :y

You are correct sir :-[ I had not put the lower steel washer or the steel sleeve in. All done now and car is back to normal. :y

I learnt that the hard way... First decent bump and the shocks punched the lower bush through the body work... Made quite a mess of the cover plates ::)
The washers compress the rubber bushes in place and the steel bush then locks everything together :y
