Hi on a 2.5 td manual engine ecu data display it displays automatic transmission, will that effect how the car runs??
The car isn't reving over 1200 - 1300 rpm
-
Have you recently replaced the MID?
-
I haven't this is a friends car and he just bought it, he said it had been driving fine for a few days then the next morning he went out and it would not respond too well. What effect would that have?
Thanks

I'm not sure you've got the full story TBH.
What age is the car?
-
1998, possibly not, what effect would the MID have on how the car runs?
-
wrong code index?

OK, lift ECU and check last 3 digits of ECU is 427, not 428.
-
wrong code index?
On the MID I suspect. But it wouldn't have "just happened" by itself.
-
no understandable but am I possibly looking on the right path??
-
As said, lets see where we stand - get the ECU number, then we'll take it from there.
In meantime, try to find out if this error message has always appeared every time its been used :y
-
ok well have to go to garage to look so possibly will not get answer tonight but hopefully you can help me again!

I try to get online most evenings for a hour :y

thanks a million!

Part no on ecu is 0281001427 (90494179)
Held in the R + S buttons on wiper stalk and got the following
041 3
24060

Hmmm, that all seems correct (tyre size aside maybe), assuming its not an Elite.
Ignoring the duff message on MID, what are the symptoms?
-
The 427 and 428 ECU,s cant be interchanged, differant plug configuration. Omega Toy tried with his on my one when I first bought it

the car refuses to rev, its a real struggle and dies after 1300 rpm.
Car has elite wheels
-
think you have picked me up wrong, the transmission coding in the engine ecu is 'Auto' but the car is manual

Ah OK, get it set back to Manual. 427 was only ever used in Manuals, so shouldn't ever be set to Auto. It could potentially be picking up a duff signal from gearbox asking for low power. However, unless somebody has been playing, this shouldn't have just happened by itself :-\
If the symptom (not revving) has occurred at the same time the MID warning comes up, you could be on to something. Or there could be another problem causing the revving (which on TDs usually cause a code in the engine, but no EML).
But defo get it set back to manual.
