Title: My miggy is dead. Not happy.
Post by: grain.ben on 24 October 2014, 18:59:39
As some of you will know, my miggy broke down again a couple of weeks ago. Up on closer inspection, I whipped the coil pack off and took the plugs out ready replace with all new, and to my horror, pot 3 was full of coolant  :'( :'( :'( , the sparkplug was wet through, hence the misfire.

I used our works mechanics tools to investigate further. I used a fluid extractor that I poked into the bore and I syringed the coolant out, I recovered about 200ml of coolant from the bore (header tank also down on coolant). I sucked all the coolant out and I left it over night to see if any went back in, yes, checked the next morning and there was more coolant in there. The coolant is very clean, I cant see any oil in the coolant anywhere and there is no mayo either. My mechanic mate seems to think its a cracked head.

So because of this, and because its MOT runs out next Thursday, she has to go, but she will have to be towed away.

I shall be posting a for sale ad on here in the next few hours.  :'( :'( :'(

Im really really hoping some one will buy her for spares or a project repair as she is too good to be crushed, but I will elaborate on what I have to offer in a little while.  :'( :'( :'(

It'll be the head gasket. Not uncommon on the 2.2 and not too bad to fix.

Agreed, a lot less chew than doing a V6.

With so many of The 2.2 having HG fail when getting near the 100K mark.. If the replacement is fitted properly and head skimmed if needed.. How long should they be good for thereafter  :y

How the hell can coolant get in a plug well from a head gasket failure?
