I took my car to ATS to have a recharge and antibac bomb with an amazon voucher I had. They called to let me know that there is a leak at the above position. They are going to give me a price for having this section of pipe repaired. However, I was just wondering if this might be something I could possibly do myself?

EDIT: how to http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=124057.0 :y

.... They are going to give me a price for having this section of pipe repaired. .....
For some reason there seems to be a common misconception that the valve is part & parcel of the pipe, as Beserkerboy says, the valve itself is very easily replaced ...... just support the boss on the pipe as you undo the valve or theres a good cjance that the pipe will be damaged. The hardest thing is getting your local Vx dealer to order the correct valve.

The problem with ATS that they will not fit parts supplied by the customer, had the problem when I asked them to fit new rear track rods when they found mine were seized during a four wheel alignment....still not done yet ::)

Yep, got my HP valve changed last month when AC finally stopped after 14 years :'(
New valve, vac out and new coolant and cabin is ICE cold now :y
The link posted by Serek was I how got VX Stealer to get the right valve. I think there was also a exploded diagram of the AC System with part numbers listed somewhere on OFF too ?
I think the part number may have changed but they were claimed to be standard ones and I could probably find the VX invoice if needed for part number :y

Okay folks thanks for the info. Interesting to see what ATS say but in any case will get the part myself and fit once I am sure there is no gas left in the system.

The HP valve can be removed, then cleaned with carb cleaner. The gunge up with dye and refrigerant :yesterday

ATS quote: £220 + VAT message left on answerphone. Apparently the valve is soldered in...I think not. Carmarthen stealer price for the valve £4.19 + VAT. Unfortunately, there is gas left in the system. When I unscrew the plastic cap I can hear it leaking out. Presumably ATS could safely pump it out for me to replace the valve and then refill?

Yep, my local place charges most people a small fee for doing the vacuum but then refunds it when you go back for the refill, not sure about ATS.
The valve size seems a bit odd and some have issues getting a spanner to fit, just make sure you hold the pipe with a spanner while undoing \ doing up the valve.

15mm for the valve, 17mm for the boss it screws on to. :y
