Must be instant access......because I'm often skint.
One year only, because interest rates are likely to change next year.
We currently have a few pennies in a Post Office ISA. Last year 1.9%.......this year 1.7% :'(
Either way the returns are piss poor. :-\

And, being a 40% taxpayer, you'll get next to nothing.

If it's true that you pay no tax on the first £10,000.......then I pay no tax.
That is a measure of how impoverished I am.
I can't afford to spend £10000 on a brand new Daewoo and then move to a larger house.. :)

Come on you lazy bastards. Don't make me look for myself.

Lend me £20,000 and I'll give you 3% per annum....tax free. :y

A lot of people are turning to a Santander 123 account. Rather than an ISA.
Fund it with £500 a month minimum. Even if you pay it straight back to yourself. Pay £2 a month fee. Gives 3% interest up to 20k. Cash back on some direct debits . ...gives better return, apparently. (So put your total bill amount in (£500 minimum) then get cash back on your payments out, etc)
Now off to google with you. Lazy arse. ;)

Take a look at Rate Setter also if you fancy something a bit different - not 100% guaranteed but good returns.

Hope I understood it correctly. Check web site etc. ...which I know you would anyway, of course. :y

More or less as you say.
1% interest on a balance of £1000, 2% on £2000 & 3% on a balance of £3000 up to £20k as you say. I have my wages paid into one, only draw back is that it's too easy to get to your cash, at least if it's locked away in AN Other account you knda forget you have it.

Would I be right in thinking that Santander is Spanish owned?
If everything went 'tits up 'in Spain would the spanish government be liable for any losses.
How safe are Spanish financial institutions?
We have seen what can happen here in Blighty.
Would the British government step in to bail out its own people if Santander went bust?
-
Used to be Abbey National I thought. :-\ means nothing though as it depends who bought them...?
Iirc Varche dosnt speak too highly of them. I tought Virgin did similar? One account? Is it? No idea on the figures though.
Santander is the one IFA's recomend so presume they have the best rates?
Some research required maybe?

50% youth unemployment in Spain, Mr Gixer.

I visited Santander once.
Once was enough. :-\

With the volatility of the Euro-Zone anything could happen to Spanish banks. ::) ::) :D :D ;)
Just kidding......or am I?
-
As I understand it, Santander is one of the strongest banks with more than adequate international funds outside of Spain, and so relatively immune from any Spanish collapse.
They are as safe a bank as you can get with at least British government guarantees in place to cover it's account holders if the worst was to happen. If it did...........well I think that would be the start of the collapse of capitalism! :o :o :o :P :P
I am with Santander earning maximum interest on a 123 account, plus an ISA, and feel safe! :y :y :y
Go for a 123 Opti! :y :y :y :y :y

As good a place as any to get off a boat. The drive up into the mountains from there is 8) though.
Remember you're covered for 85K if they do go belly up, and, as you only get the interest deal on 20k...

How about a nice Icelandic bank?
Surely you can't get any safer than that. ::) ::) ;)
Excellent rates of interest. :)
