Title: So.... had a little accident....
Post by: minifreek on 03 November 2014, 08:14:49
Sooooo, I was driving along a road, when I had to stop at red lights, when some doddering old fool decided to run into the side of us from a sidestreet....

Not a lot of damage except on the O/S rear wheelarch and O/S rear wheel....

The arch is bent and the repair I did with filler and fresh paint to get it to look nice, now needs repairing again....

The old fella admitted liability (coz I was stopped) and there was witnesses, but don't think they'll be needed TBH...

Iv already told him that I wont go through insurance as both cars would possibly be written off and we cant be without a vehicle (registered disabled carriage), I can only presume his is also a registered disabled carriage too.... (most old folks with cars have disabled RFL)

The wheel has got scuff marks on it, but dunno 100% if its been bent/buckled, I can't see it being more than scuffed as the Elite wheels are quite strong but I may just get it seen to to see of its still true or not. I only got a fresh tyres on the rear wheels last week so the tyre place should be able to tell me if the wheel is still OK or not....

All I can ask the old fella to do is possibly get the rear arch repaired and the wheel/s refurbed...

Im not out to rip-off the old fella as I wouldn't like it done to me, plus I don't believe in the 'compensation culture' we've become to live in these days...

Hopefully it'll be repaired without much hassle to myself and to the old fella that hit me...

Good luck with the repairs, hope it all goes well :y

Sounds like it should be straightforward, but may be pricy if the rip-off garages quote for it

To be honest TB I really dont think I'll be bothering garages to get a repair done.. Just glad the fella hit the arch and wheel and not the Irmy bodykit LOL - then I would've been pissed off to say the least...

ATEOTD no-one got hurt and its just a car, Im not gonna rip the old fella off, I dont think my wife would let me LOL

Been around a couple of places for quotes etc... to get the arch repaired and the wheel sorted...

Im getting on avarage a price of £280, which seems a bit steep to repair an arch and sort a scuff on a wheel... but I guess Im not paying for it...

Do i tell the fella who hit me thats its going to cost around £250 to get the repairs done...? or just not bother and pocket the cash ... ?

Hmmm, tricky... I think about £50-80 for a wheel refurb is the average rate... and respray per panel about £80-120, depending... that leaves something like £50-150 of labour for repairing the arch... no idea exactly what's involved, I'm assuming they're not cutting out and welding in a new panel.... I know what you mean, it sounds a bit steep, on the other hand father's just paid £80 for a cracked Insignia bumper repair / repsray... sadly a chimp with Parkinson's could have done better with a rattlecan :-( So you get what you pay for...

Maybe shave a few pennies, and leave the alloy for now - on the logic that a touchup stick / little pot of suitable paint will disguise it pretty well for the time being, and there'll surely be an alloy of that style kicking around on here for sale in decent nick at some point in the very near future?
