Title: Has anybody had any dealings with this company ?
Post by: tigers_gonads on 13 November 2014, 20:23:47
www.lightsourcedesign.co.uk

Spent a hour in the company of Steve Hill on Tuesday and wondering if anybody knows anything about him (good or bad) or his company ?
Anybody had dealings with the company ?

TIA  :)

Took a peek at the website . . . . .

"Light Source can offer a full end to end network build solution to the telecommunication industry. From noticing to as-built capture, without the use of 3rd parties, we ensure that there are no dependencies on our delivery or accountability.

As a company we are committed to deliver innovation and best practice efficiencies required to supply continued improvement plans to telecommunications carriers.

Light Source is striving to create a working environment that improves quality of service, reduces transitional stresses and has increased productivity for our partners. We are continually challenging our resource to deliver innovation, meet stricter SLA’s and differentiate our deployment in an ever competitive market.

Our business fully accepts liability, where appropriate, and run with a back bone of accountability throughout the business."

Sorry . . . . . . but just what the F*** does that all mean ? I just hate trendyspeak. But then I'm just an old fart . . . . .

Maybe, but the website is the shop window. That's what people will use to form an opinion. Like me   ::) ::)

As you probably know, i've really struggled for work since my bankruptcy / business went pop a few years ago  >:(

This company is expanding BIGTIME at the moment.
Tuesday, I went all suited and booted to a recruitment seminar that he was holding in Hull.
Basically, his wish list for his future employee's sounded like he was reading off my CV  :D
I had a good chat about myself and his visions with the man himself and later on, with a couple of his colleagues.

Put it this way, during the seminar, his words where ................ If you get a interview, you are 95% there to a job offer.  His parting words as he shook my hand was ................. looks like i've a few appointments to make  :)

I've had that many kicks in the slats over the last 6 years or so, so i'm trying not to build my hopes up but if he looks beyond my age, I think i'm in with a fighting chance of a bloody good job   :y :y

No dealings with the company. However their website looks the business for fronting the company.

Good business to be in. Companies will always be wanting more, better or moved comms.

Get prepared for your interview. If you are going to be working in the Hull area- what projects are they bidding on or better are you bidding on the ..... new NHS hospitals link up (or whatever) ? etc  What challenges will that project hold?

make your good luck. :y

They certainly look to be well established rather than a newfangled flash in the pan...

We are proud to be working on behalf of BT.

What they doing in Hull then?, though BT weren't allowed in there, all wrapped up by Kingston Communications, one of the few places BT cant trade in the UK.

Well I know BT and Virgin have been banging on Ofcom's doors for years saying its not fair, fixed monopoly at all that, despite Kingston having their own Telephone exchange before the Post Office Telephone service was even thought of, maybe they've changed the rules now.  ;)

Never heard of them or the directors and from someone who spent 12 years in the telecoms business in Nottingham......

.....also, Fibre optics have been around for FAR longer than that company so the website statements are a bit 'creative'

I note that have worked with Kingston Communications which is a plus .

Its a bit strange that they are registered to an address in Radcliffe......and an office in Bingham.....and yet no sign of them on Linked In

Well I got a phone call from the job centre this afternoon.
Apparently I was very very close to a interview BUT having been self employed for over 20 years, they didn't think I would fit in  :'(
When (in true gonads style) I asked her if it was because I was pushing 50 years old, she told me that a employer couldn't do that ...................... lets just say the tone of her voice told a different story  :-X :-X

I have never being so oppsing angry in my oppsing life  >:( >:( >:(
Without a word of a lie, I could kill somebody the way I feel at the moment  >:( >:( >:(

Sorry, rant over ............

There seems to be alot of that sort of behaviour going around :-\

Well on the face of it that is that.

However you could try a direct appeal in writing or in person or by phone to the hiring man. You would need to think through your words and which would work the best.

Very dissappointed not to get called for interview, could you have some feedback, is it because of my missing work history etc?

I realise you are probably firming up your appointments but in the event of you having a candidate shortfall, I would be willing to step in, work for two weeks for free etc etc ( whatever you feel comfortable with).

Might sound a bit hard but if it really is the job you have set your heart on what is there to lose apart from a bit of time, your dignity.

And breath ................  :-[

Appreciate the kind words and pm's lads  :)

Varche ............. I had already thought of that yesterday mate but politely said goodbye on the phone before I blew a fuse  ::) :-X

If i've had 4 hours sleep last night , that would be a over estimate.
Sat outside in the garden at 4 o'clock this morning just trying to cool down and get my head together before I get myself into trouble  :-[
F@@k, i'm sick and tired of this shite  >:(

When i'm in a calmer state of mind Varche, i'll give it a go  :)
Not like i've got anything to loose, As of most ex self employed people who was fighting a loosing battle with dept, I was behind in the last 2 years with my stamp so get a grand total of sweet f@@k all in benefits, just get my stamp paid and all the grief that goes with it  :(
I've picked up agency bits and pieces over the years but its been like that for over 4 years since i've had a proper job  >:(

I should have been a asylum seeker, smack head, alcoholic or unmarried single lesbian mother of 6 brats then the good old system would be throwing money at me  >:( >:(

Oh well, the mutt has just brought me his lead and its now pishing down outside  ::)
Best go get piggin wet  ;D

Enjoy your day boys and girls  :P

If you know how much you have underpaid your stamp by, is it possible to top it up :-\

Might be some temp parcel work being close to Christmas... Yodel and Hermes have both been recruiting for car owner drivers to do home deliveries since the summer, both have post Christmas potential. Failing that, the local bus firm might be worth a shout as well :-\

Obviously I am assuming that you have nowt else going on, but summat is surely better than nowt :y

Well if they have to work with KC then you've probably had a lucky escape to be honest. Lying bunch of...... 'Yes sir, complete diverse routes to Leeds' Apart from the bit where their fibers run in parallel ducts under the pavements of Leeds which just happens to be being redeveloped and caused a 48 hour outage for one of our 700 seat call centres.....

I'm a bit biased since I work in an industry where roughly 2/3rds of new starters quit in the first two years (guesstimate, but not far off) - but surely even at 50 years old that's 15+ years of potential service, plus whatever the Gubbermint fanny about with in the future?

Gutted for you TG - from both MrsGK and I.

Varche ........... Sent a nice email off to the man with the power yesterday afternoon telling him how its a shame I won't get the chance to show the daft Lady bits what he is missing him what I can do for his company what I can do and how it was appreciated that he even had the time to give my some feedback, blah blah blah.  I'm not holding my breath mate  :)

Al ............. Doesn't work like that sadly  :(
Looked into it a few of years back while dodging the Official Receiver but was told that yes, you can top it up but it only counts towards your final sum of years paid when if you get the chance to retire  >:(
Nowdays, claims work on your last 2 years employment NI contributions  :(  In other words if I could get any job and hold it down for 24 full months then if I lost that job, i'd be entitled to 26 weeks worth @ 70 quid a week and limited funding for courses ect ............
After that, it would stop regardless because the missus works 30 plus hours a week  :(

As for "anything else on"  ;D  Yes, I do a few bits and bobs to keep my hand in. Its not a wage. Its not even dole money BUT it helps me keep the omega on the road and sane (ish)  ;D

VXL ................ Know what you mean bud but the world isn't like these well scripted reality programs that so many have been creaming their pants over on here.  All pride goes out of the window when you are watching your missus work herself into a early grave just to put food on the table and pay the bills. In the real world (not reality TV), most people would sell there ring piece if it brings them some money in and more importantly, the self esteem that goes with it  :)

Gastro .........  Thanks bud  :)

And just to round it off  ;D ;D
I applied for 4 jobs yesterday
1 @ 20 hours per week / 7 quid a hour in a warehouse. It stated that you will be working with the polish and answer to a polish supervisor so a knowledge of the polish language would be useful  ;)
3 @ 6.50 per hour (zero hours contract) as a maintenance person in city centre hotels  ;)

All good shit  ;D ;D

Enjoy your day  :P ;D
