Title: Front fog light button won't stay on when pushed
Post by: SR-71Blackbird on 16 November 2014, 18:13:50
Hi all,

During torrential rain on the motorway the other day the front fog light o the dash suddenly turned off even though I didnt push the button.

I pushed it again and as i push it in the light on the dash displays but the when i let the button go the light goes off.

Outside the car both bulbs work, the passenger side does seem to have moisture inside the lens.

What shall I do and was it because of the water?

Thanks

Alex

Swap the entire lights switch unit out for a good one?

The fog switches can be replaced separately  :y

As above, my first port of call would be to replace the switch.

Yep, switch self latching packed up, in my hay day I would probably taken it apart and see whats going on, but did that to a Rear Blind switch once and it all pinged apart in different directions and ceased to function for good, so yea replace the switch.

Remove the main light switch, the fog light switches are then accessible and are interchangeable with any fog light switches from a similar vintage Vauxhall, assuming they're not available separately  :y

I did have this same problem many times in past couple years, 3 switches have been replaced. Reason to that is that there is no relay for front fog light, electricity goes through the switch, it can't handle it and melts. Install basic relay to the wirings and see, if that helps. I think it's a common problem for those, who uses much of those front fogs, the switch is hot after half an hour. :)

Switch gets hot because it has a light in it...
